I want to love this game. I love Civ and a good console Civ would be GREAT. However they've sacrificed everything that made it good for Civ queers and made some terrible hybrid game.
- No map size change
- No # of civ size change
- Increased focus on war, less on non-combat victories
- You can absorb civs by culture with no consequences
- AI is generally no smarter than your average Nfag
- Short, quick games mean you've seen everything in 2-3 hours
Maybe multiplayer would be better. I'm sure non Civ nerds will like it but I can't pay full price for something like this.

Are you basing this off the demo or the retail version?
-
Yeah, the demo is probably nerfed in a bunch of ways.
But even compared to the Civ4 demo I played, it seemed a bit too simple.
-
A civ that is more accessible to all people... what a surprise
Cmon now... did you really expect this to be Civ 5?

both

I had to figure out some stuff in the demo. I definitely prefer the PC version though I thought the demo was serviceable. Maybe they are just gear it down for the wii version because in my mind, it was too 'hand holding'.
-
There is no Wii version.

I think the game is great for the format and the audience it is intended for after playing the demo. However, just like Civ4 (which is also perfect for it's home on the PC, and also a better game as a whole than CivRev) there will be people not interested in playing the game on the format it is designed for. Different strokes for different folks.

There will be. It's just 'On Hold'. And by "on hold" I mean they have to be tailoring it for the wii so there aren't middle to late game lags where there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Even on the PC version, after a while, there is more significant time in between turns later in the game.
-
In that case I'll probably skip this game and wait for the Wii version.
-
Sid and Firaxis have given a Wii version nothing but lip service. It's very possible, but it will totally depend on how well the game does on the 360/DS/PS3 first-if it bombs there (and I am betting it will, unless there is a silent majority of console gamers I don't know about), you won't see it on Wii, and you won't see an Western publisher make a serious and committed console turnbased strategy game for a very long time.
-
Even if it does well on those consoles, it will bomb on Wii.
-
Well that's a given. Anyone interested in that type of game would have already bought it for the other platforms, and the Wii-only types don't exactly strike me as the "let's play this complicated game for two hours straight".

As a non Civ nerd, the 360 demo has definitely got me intrigued. However, after reading some of the previews. I think I'm worried about the 2-3 hour complete games. I don't know if trying to win in every possible way will be enough for me to keep playing, I'd rather have an more in depth experience to keep my attention on one long lasting game at a time. I'm sure I'm going to pick it up, just to do my part in supporting more diversity to the console.
I'm just really curious now to what are the main differences in the PC, and a game like Civ 4. My interest is peaked and I was hoping some of the bearded men of the board could give a non PC'er some insight in what to expect if I were to jump into the PC Civ world (as compared to the 360 demo).

I'm fairly interested in the DS version. Any impressions on that yet?
