merci!

game is omg and i need to learn the ropes of sim city since this is my first one

this is my city. I decided to put my city in that location, but in hindsight, it doesn't seem like a it was a good idea because of the mountain terrain. It makes building some things extremely annoying, partcularly ROADS since i'm fucking ocd about having my roads look perfect. This is my third city so far, no fourth. It took a while to understand the basics but now I'm having a bit trouble.

For one thing it seems I accidentally removed some power lines and when I play the buildings on some sides of the city just blink with a red and yellow thunder/power sybmol. It's really annoying.

On top of this, the citizens keep complaining about the horrible traffic so I've tried my best to make more roads and a really really ugly high way. I hate how the highway can't connect to roads! OCD!

Finally, there's a dry spell in my city now and a general lack of water. Fuck. I tried connecting all the pipes but they still are complaining about lack of water! So I started a pipe that starts under the big pool of water on my map for a water source and I'm still having trouble. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I want to make subways and stuff but I'm not exactly sure how to do it.

My crime rate went up, but I think adding more schools fixed that problem. Interesting.

I NEVER get any money. I tried raising the 1% sales tax rate and that bitch suggested I take remove it.

All in all, this game is fucking crack. I started playing at like 9 and stopped at 12:30 or so. Time just flew by. Holy shit.

Moar thorough pics of my city!!!

The music rocks!

If Civilization, Titan Quest, Diablo, and all of those rts' people keep talking about are as deep and addicting as this I :bow to pc gaming!

Pro-Tip: Make a train bridge, then destroy the bridge while a train is going across it. Dark Side points +1

AWESOME!

I love SC2000 so much.  I'm no expert, but here's some things that might help:

1) To help with the power situation, run a couple of extra lines here and there so power doesn't get cut when you're demolishing things.

2) To connect the highway to the roads, run a road underneath the highway at a right angle, and then use an onramp to connect them.

3) To get water you need to install water pumps adjacent to a source of water.  Make sure they're connected to the rest of the water grid.

4) These things are hidden in submenus, I think you press a button and hold it down - then you'll get sub menus.

5) I can't remember the financing off the top of my head, but you should be able to keep taxes around 7%.  You can knock down funding on police, hospitals etc and still keep them in good shape.  You'll figure it out pretty quick.  Just click on menus and remember to hold the button down for submenus.

6) Oh, here's a HOT TIP!  People won't build more than three squares away from a road.  So make your city blocks 6 squares wide by however long you want.  If you have a city block that's wider than that, put a park or some water in the middle where they won't build and it will increase the value of the surrounding area.

That's not as fun because the cars don't explode like the train does.

That's a water tower - I'm not sure they produce water, I think they only store it.  You need a fair few water pumps for a town that size - 20 would do it I think.  Make sure they're adjacent to a water square as they'll make lots more water, but diagonals don't count I think.

You should be able to see water flowing through your pipes if you have water.

No they look OK.  You just have to hook up the gray areas.

You can save money by not running pipes under the houses.  Just run a single square of pipe under the roads to hook up the blocks of houses to each other.  For example, stick a pipe underneath each powerline that is crossing a road.

You've got a little bit of water flowing there, but you need more pipes and probably more pumps.

Your roads are OK, but you might even have too many of them.  Make your city blocks six squares wide, and try to make long straight arterial roads.  Once you have a subway happening, putting a subway station at busy intersections will help.

You can also install bus depots.  For any public transport, make sure you have some stations in residential, some in commercial and some in industrial areas to maximise their use as people go from home to work.

You can put a highway in, but keep residential areas a few squares away or property values will fall from the pollution.  Particularly try to put in a highway on the main stretch that citizens use to get from home to work - you'll see which roads these are by how busy they are.

The best thing to do is load up pre-made cities and trash them.  Disasters, aliens, strategic bulldozing, etc.

2000 still looks beautiful as all hell. I'm still fond of the original SC over 2000 though. 3000 just added too much. And yeah, need more pumps.

I discovered this game pre installed on my first shitty pc.  It was like fucking heaven.  I spent so many hours on this game.  Hell, I have it on my laptop and I create a bustling city in no time just for shits and giggles.  I am God!

I kept on trying to design skyscrapers with SCURK but I never got them looking good :( The best deal ever (apart from a free copy of COD4) was both Sim City 3000 and Total Annihilation for a quarter.

The best place to put prisons and power plants is right at the very edge of the screen, that way their negative effects are lessened.

Tesla's lost "wireless power" technology is employed in full-force in Sim City.

Also, water pumps run on air.

Himumu is a pampered suburban white kid.  He doesn't even know how he gets his electricity or water.  It could be delivered by fairies for all he knows.

I know how we get water and electricity, I just wasn't sure if I had to connect the power lines to the power plant since I've never played Sim City. I mean, obviously I already know powerlines have to connect to a powerplant if you even bothered to look at my City. I did it because it made sense. I was asking if I had to do that in Sim City because Sim City is...well, it's still a game. It's not real life. Just checking to make sure so I don't waste power lines.

I fired this up last night to work on my city I started a couple of months ago - eating bulk time is pretty easy with this game.

It'd be nice to get access to all my old cities but they're on an old 33mhz Mac in the cupboard and they'll have to stay there.

I remembered an economical way to set up water pumps.  Dedicate a city block to them and set them up like so ( :-\ = road,  :( = water,  8) = pump)

 :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
 :-\ 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :-\

SC2000 is aight, but what we really need is a RCT1/2 thread. That game is dank. Like dank weed.
