The NPD Group has just told us that Boom Blox sold a paltry 60K units and was ranked #25 for the month of May. Considering the great reviews in addition to the hype this game received for its connection to Spielberg, we are more than surprised by this lackluster performance.
To emphasize the sad, sad state of affairs for Boom Blox, 60K out of an installed base of 10.2 million is barely 0.6 percent of all Wii owners in America.
All the publicity, mainstream media talking about this, and the marketing concerning Spielberg "making a game" didn't do shit! :lol
Just what percentage of Wee-Wee buyers are fucktards who just get it to play Wii Sports and a game with homosexual Nintendo mascots every now and then to then never touch this piece of trash again?
REAL gaming, real ambitious multi-million dollar games will always be safe and sound on, you know, REAL platforms.

like haze?
oh wait...

like haze?
oh wait...
He said REAL platforms.
-
hehe.
but no seriously, multi-million dollar games will always be safe and sound on on the 360/ps3? this is fucking stupid.
-
Haze did very well in Europe, it will definitely make its money back
you know significant PS3 third party games sell at a good attach rate and it definitely is a profitable platform, to tell any otherwise is folly... when games cost so much to make you can't spit on all that additional revenue
-
As long as you got your copy, who cares? lulz
-
HOLY SHIT
This game is actually good too :usacry
-
Haze did very well in Europe, it will definitely make its money back
This is why Europe can't be taken seriously.
-
you don't realize how important that is, it means that on Wii save for Nintendo's own franchises, and to a much, much, MUCH lesser extent, iterations of notorious franchises where a gimmicky, waggle-based control scheme is publicized (those often being ports of older games)... NOTHING will sell
it means that real games will always continue, what the hell are third parties expecting when they flood the market with generic shit that is supposed to sound like "party", "golf", "puppies", "ski", "bowling" or anything of the sort?
it means that the customers see piles upon piles of generic game cases at Wal-Mart that they can't even begin to distinguish from one another and the only viable options for them, the only games they're going to pick en masse are those that are clearly made by Nintendo
this is EXACTLY what I thought would happen about two years ago!
-
That's what Spielberg gets for making a game exclusively for Wii, douchebag.
I would edit the Wikipedia page, but my IP is banned from editing. :lol
-
Good news is we will prolly see a price drop at retail. WOO!
-
It probably looked too much like a real game.
Spielberg should have disguised it as shovelware if he wanted sales.
-
This game is new and overpriced and not a Nintendo game.
Doomed to fail on a Nintendo platform, no matter how good it is.
-
thats one thing I bate about Wii - while the numbers are good - the systems best games sell like shyt, and the shyt game sell en masse....
People are fucked.
-
Uh this game was marketed?
And all PS3 exclusives are profitable and strong sellers? :lol
-

Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki, and No More Heroes, although the latter was Suda 51's best selling title to date. That's the only Wii games I can think of that deserved to sell a lot more, but didn't.
Common threads among all these is either that they were priced too high, had almost no marketing push, were incredibly niche, or a combination of the three.
-
I love how Sfags always make up European data to support their arguments.
-
I don't think I recall seeing the mythical "heavy marketing" or whatever for this game, which makes sense since it's not the sort of game you throw huge marketing dollars at. Its problem is, it's a niche title that no one including hardcore puzzle players or whomever is buying this game would have gotten, if it weren't for the amazing reviews. Plus it's $20 overpriced. Games like this, where you can't immediately comprehend why it may be interesting or fun, need demos or something along those lines to sell. Casual games in general (as well as their platforms) need demos IMO.

I can instantly ignore and discount anything said by a Haze supporter. So Meh.

REAL gaming, real ambitious multi-million dollar games will always be safe and sound on, you know, REAL platforms.
It's sad that people equate now "real gaming" with bloated, multi-million dollar budgets and "Oscar worthy" scripts. Was Final Fantasy 7 your first game, Mondain? :-\
-
It's sad that the vast majority of Wii owners fucking FAIL.
-
Yea, you might be right, but we'll never know!
:piss Wii owners :piss2
-
So it basically sold about as much as Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank and VF5 PS3 in Japan?

What a crappy list: mascot games, mini game drivel, and ports, ports, ports!
-
Is there a list of 360 million sellers?

Ah lets see: 2 Sonic franchise titles (one of which apes the Olympics), which always sell well on children plaforms
Guitar Hero, a multi platform title that's been big on each one
A port of a popular Gamecube game
Two launch titles
Carnival Games...dark horse. Impressive
A few games don't prove your point. In fact, it only shows how narrow the Wii demographic is. Every successful system has successful launch titles...but since then, just how many ewxclusive Wii titles have done anything? No wonder most western developers are ignoring the thing
-
It's not like there are that many good third party games on Wii to begin with. I'd say the situation is worse for PS3 since it actually has some multiplatform games worth giving a shit about, and yet still sells about as bad as most Wii games.

If anything, that list shows that the Wii probably has the most diverse lineup of gamers.
Mini-games: Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Carnival games, Rayman Raving Rabbids
Casual games: My Sims, Lego Star Wars, Guitar Hero III
Regular games: Sonic and the Secret Rings
Hardcore games: Red Steel, Resident Evil 4, Umbrella Chronicles
And what about the Xbox360? First and third person action games, a few sports titles, a few RPGs, and maybe a racing game or two.
-
I bet it didn't cost all that much to produce and I've read 3rd hand that it only took a few months to put together. 60k @ $50 a pop ain't bad.
-
No wonder most western developers are ignoring the thing
Developers are ignoring it because it doesn't let them play out their fantasies of being hotshot movie directors. Half the industry is full of wannabe Michael Bays, more interested in making summer blockbusters than games, and and all these "real gamers", weaned on the teat of Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid and who think Final Fantasy 8 was the good old days, are just lapping it up.
-

I don't even want to burn it onto a DVD+RW :lol

Yeah, that's the major problem right there.

It's always nice to see nfags cry but come on, EA is rolling in the dough from 60k sales of a fucking $50 block game.
