I hated that owl. I also hated the fact that the designers knew what they were doing by making the default choice "No."
-
been there, selected that
-
lots of games do that, not just zelda :(
-
They could just have added those instructions in a logbook UI and default the answer to "Yes". Then if the user wants to reread the message anytime, they can do so.
-
I also hate when I'm pressing A to get through some dialog in Mass Effect and I accidentally select some dialog option without even reading it. Like I want to select "Sod off, you bloody wanker!" but instead I select "Oh terribly sorry, good sir. My deepest apologies for offending you." and I get Paragon points. :'(

couldn't you skip through that entire wall of text by pressing B? i think so

I think some parts you can with the + button or something like that, but there were parts where the devs deemed too important / pivotal that you were forced to watch. You'd just get this "Cannot skip" message.
Just add that information into a damn journal! If it's that important, wouldn't you want the user to access that information at will, as a reference?
I remember in MGS2 by far the most useful button was the triangle - you'd skip through those interminable hours of dialogue!
