Title: your biggest internet pet peeves?
Post by: Mupepe on June 16, 2008, 01:39:30 PM
when someone sees something expensive and outlandish that a rich person has done (custom car, home theater, etc.) there's always a few douche bags that say "they should donate that money to charity instead of buying tacky expensive items".  I should punch you in the nuts for being a self righteous prick who probably spends ungodly amounts of money on animu or video games.

godfuckingdamnit

well I think it's just more prevalent on the internet because they think they can be so effin holy because they're anon.  it's harder to pull it off in real life when people know you're not so damn holy.

Oh another one is when someone post a picture of real girls and everyone is like "too thin, too fat, I wouldnt hit that" when in reality everyone who says that would probably drink their own cum to have sex with the chicks.

Same here. I also hate anyone who uses the phrase "pwn". Its older than the fucking Internet, yet they still think it makes them sound cool.

Anime tards: not people like MAF/Patel who seem to like cool stuff and aren't obsessed with it. I'm talking about the "senshe doku tensi 7 is probably the greatest film of all time, and if angela ooshiwa was a real person she'd be my waifu" types.

Sony fans: no point in talking bad about Nfans, at least they seem to live in some form of reality. Sony fans on the other hand have no reality to call their own, so they wind up trying to steal reality from other people. people in the "i have a successful videogame console" reality are especially targets for sony fans

E-Atheists: don't believe in god? good for you. but if you don't believe in god and don't like religion, don't fuck up religion threads just because. EB has some very smart people who have opened up my eyes, like Malek. Unlike most e-atheists he's pretty damn cool, doesn't needlessly attack religion every opportunity he gets, etc. Fuck those people

Japan-ophiles: has any other country been praised for mediocrity more than Japan? people online seem to think that if something came from japan, no matter how shitty it is, it MUST be awesome. these people have little interest in the beauty of the japanese country, or of the culture. instead they obsess over the dumbest shit the country has to offer, often praising bootlegged American talent/ideas/concepts/etc as eastern genius. perhaps the final step of this disease is the "apologist" stage, where people begin to either ignore or dismiss the blatant racism and xenophobia still alive and well in the country, as well as become revisionist historians with respect to the justified atomic bombings of WWII. tmv or whatever the fuck his name is comes to mind. if he was as critical of japan as he is of the US he'd be a bit more tolerable. i'm all for gay marriage, but i'd personally strip HIS marriage rights

fucking seriously.  at least admit that if you don't find her completely attractive you'd still nail the shit out of her.

PD: TNW is the perfect example of an obnoxious japanophile.  He hates everything American and shits on it every chance he gets.  desu desu!  fucking jackass.  And the idiots on GAF who go to Japan and start threads about what to see but really are only interested in shit like akihabara and the nintendo museum.

anime haters, I'm sure there is something you like. if not, stfu. I also see anime fans being annoying a lot too. OMG CODE GEASS, WATCH IT

white people always judging other people of different skin color

animu fegs who think they're above everyone else because they watch anime and that it makes them "cultured" and that japan is the best country in the world. doubly for ones who use japanese words like "ne" or "sugoi" or "kawaii" or "^_^" or say some random japanese phrase instead of speaking ingles.

obnoxious anime haters who acts like they're better than everyone else because they have lost all magic and passion in their life

e-athiests

people who think they have the best taste in everything. Example: there's this gay guy on this one forum who thinks he's above everyone else because he watches reality tv

you know what creeped me out?  some thread on GAF a while back where a guy asked if others were also afraid of talking to children in public because they didn't want to be labeled a pedophile.

what the fuck is wrong with these people that they assume that's the first thing that comes to peoples minds?  that's fucking sick IMO.  it's not fucking normal.  Most people don't care.  Like if I'm in line at a grocery store and some little kid is staring at me.  Make funny faces back.  Who gives a fuck?  fucking weirdos.  It really creeped me out that there were so many people agreeing with him.

There are very few people who look good in red lipstick, and those people usually juggle for a living. I once met a girl who was able to pull it off, so I let her buy me dinner. Later that night she was making out with my wang, when I realized that all that lipstick was rubbing off.  So I evacuated my moan-maker from her face hole, took some silverware for my trouble, and snuck out of her tent.

My brother thinks all anime is distinguished mentally-challenged, and I had a generally negative opinion on anime until I saw stuff like Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, etc. Then I saw Death Note (the first two episodes) and was impressed by the concept/tone. I dunno if I could get heavily into anime because of my low attention span for shows but I have nothing against it. If you like it awesome. But don't come up to me in Starbucks trying to explain how DBZ could really happen in real life

NeoGAF as a whole is so annoying. Especially the people who take their online personas a little too seriously. You know, like tnw, and half the shitty mods there who think they're hot shit because they mod a video game message board.

I seriously bet half of the mods there go out in public and think they're hot shit and act like everyone on the streets admirers them for modding a message board.

- GAF members who whine about rampant materialism in American (materialism does not exist in Europe) society.  Yet they proudly show their 500 DVD and soon, 500 Bluray collection, along with their 46" Sony Bravia sitting on expensive Ikea furniture in the gaming section.

- GAF members who have no concept of history.  Many will just listen to whatever Jon Stewart says and then patch it in with assumptions.  In fact, change that to most PoliGAF contributors.  All they know is what the Daily Show covers.  It is better than listening to Bill O'Reilly but only in the sense that getting a D- on a test is better than getting an F.

- Movie elitists.  Most take pride in seeing movies most people don't know about.  "Oh, I can't believe that <xxxxxx> got only $150,000."  Even though it was shown in 100 theaters, this, much like common sense, eludes them.  They will rant and rave about the DVD once it comes out but you damn well know that after they see it once, it is going on their shelf, next to their Criterion DVD collection and their out of print anime that features blue haired 10 year olds with EEE breasts.

- Japanophilia.  It is a nerd mecca because it is easier to feel accepted by plastics and low quality fabrics than people, which they failed at.  Most of them want so desperately to land a Japanese girl, asking frenetic questions on message boards asking how easy they are and where to get some easy Japanese ass.  At last, the idea of their stumpy chapped dicks having a feeling different than their hairy, calloused right hands.

- GAF and their monthly Game of the Forevers.  I don't know what fucktard coined that phrase but I seen it get used on pretty much every title that might be considered good.  Every console buttwarrior is guilty of this.  It seems that this generation consists of what brand can have the most obnoxious tools for fanboys.  At least last generation the Nintendo fans had it locked and the Sony and Microsoft fans could shut the fuck up.  Now, it is a free for all for who can be the biggest distinguished mentally-challenged fellow fanboy.

That would be Patrick "You're big dumb hair makes you look like a fucking tool" Klepick who coined that term.

Also Akira Kurosawa fans. Seriously. His movies aren't that good. Just because he's jap doesn't make him amazing.

Also Stanley Kubrick fans.

2001 is one of the most biggest pieces of tripe i'd ever see. He had two good movies - Shining and Clockwork Orange - and he didn't write either of them.

Every other movie of his is complete and utter shit. Lolita, 2nd half of Full Metal Jacket, 2001, Eyes Wide Shut.

Dr Strangelove I forgot about. three good movies.

And 2001 is a boring piece of shit once HAL dies. It seems like Stanley Kubrick had a habit of shitting up his movies in later acts.

I guess thats were Kojima gets his inspiration.

I don't give two shits if you like animu, Japan, games, or what have you.  That's great.  I just don't like the people who are ELITIST PRICKS about it.  Being knowledgeable about what you like or your hobbies if one thing, acting like you're better than everyone else because you watched some dumb poorly-translated fansub or a "raw," and now Dragonball or Naruto is "beneath you," is another.

This was a real-life occurance some years back, when I was working at a game shop.  This uber-skinny dorky-looking guy in a bad Hawaiian shirt comes in and looks at the used anime tapes we have for sale.  He asks me if I like anime, and then his eyes get all sharp as he asks me to name my favorites.  "Uh...I like some older stuff, like Ranma 1/2, Captain Tylor, Riding Bean, etc."  "Good," he says, "because if you had said Dragonball Z or Sailor Moon, I would have stopped talking to you and left the store immediately."  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)  What a fucking loser!  The guy then gives me this spiel about this anime club he belongs to ("Anime X Atlanta," I think it was), and I make a mental note to never attend a meeting.  Ever.

I also have a large amount of hate for "hardcore" fighting game players.  I have never come across so many stuck-up nerds in my life.  The attitudes from some of these video-snobs is unbelievable sometimes.

Oh another one is when someone post a picture of real girls and everyone is like "too thin, too fat, I wouldnt hit that" when in reality everyone who says that would probably drink their own cum to have sex with the chicks.

I think I know why this happens.  With the internet, you have access to what is a virtually unlimited amount of pornographic and risque resources.  These people have seen so many women that they have now become far, far too critical.  That, or they're simply brainwashed by porn, and no woman with a gigantic rear-end and 34DD+ breasts will do anything for them.  I think the people who always post "this chick has no ass" for a normal-looking woman and then follow it up with some abnormally-large set of buttocks are among the worst.

I dislike any hip hop thread that turns into, 'You should really listen to *insert socially concious rapper here*'. Jesus if the dude wants to listen to some party/gangsta shit let him.

Not going to happen.  I've tried to do this with people in real life and it never rubs off.  They ignore it.  I have a ton of hispanic friends who always say sensible instead of sensitive and it drives me absolutely nuts.  All of them do it!  So when they say sensible, I'll reply with "They're not sensitive" hoping maybe they'll catch on.  It's been like 4 years and they still do it :'(

Also, I hate the ultra liberal douche bags akin to the e-atheists.  The ones who always want to make snarky comments about "x could have been avoided by blah blah".  It's like those guys in real life who want to start political arguments like at parties or any social gatherings.  It's fucking obnoxious.  I think it's pretty rude to start a political argument out of nowhere unless someone specifically brings it by berating their opinion on everyone.

I didn't like FMJ either but I remember being a big debate about that a long time ago.  We basically agreed that it wasn't for everyone or something.

Clockwork Orange is crap though, at least as a movie.  I know I told you himuro but methodis, the american version (of the book) cuts out the last chapter from the original british one..and the american version is the one the movie's based on.  The author of CO says in the beginning of the re-released american version (with the last chapter pasted back in) that the movie of clockwork orange was shit because the ending made no sense.  If you read the book and see what's in the last chapter, you'll see why.  I absolutely hated the book but his point made a lot of sense.  it's not like I'm trying to be snobby since you already hate Kubrick.  I need to watch more of his movies to see if there's anything I liked though so I'm not ready to say he's all-around bad.

I can't recall seeing floods of posts from people saying this.  MGS is one series I only want to play in English.  The voice actors fit better to me.  But it's not like Russian characters speaking English makes any sense, either.   :P  Gnerally I just like to watch stuff in whatever its original language is.  With games, it just depends on how the voice actors do.  Unfortunately a large amount of English-dubbed games have ultra-shitty voice acting.  The Japanese versions come off as better-acted, BUT at the same time, use tons of cliche lines and voice styles, plus often have annoying "little girl/boy" high-pitched squeals.

Also let's try to quit saying "jap."

Dude, I'm in Japan, right?  So that means I go to an arcade and get my ass kicked all over by the guys who seem to live there 24/7.  Don't play GG in arcades, but I *DID* kick that ass in Battle Fantasia and Basara X when the arcades first got them.  The former was such a shock to me that I was laughing my ass off.

awesome

They actually have shmups in the arcades in japan.   :'(  I have to go to Canal St. in NYC if I want to rock some shmup arcade action.  :gun

Sure, sometimes I go and there will be some dude, cigarette in hand, racking up points in a game while 1-2 other guys sit behind him and watch.  I always wonder why people want to waste their spare time watching someone else play a game in an arcade.  Then there's the "cool dude with girlfriend" type, who walks over to some game (usually a fighter), sits down, and then proceeds to play the CPU for an hour while his girlfriend sits next to him with a "why did I go out with this loser?" look on her face.

I got pretty pissed off at a guy who said "don't Pak me" at my old job once, by the way.  It's not like I'd just get uppity over something said about Japan.  This idiot was then like "haha, well it's like saying 'don't Jew me'," to which I replied "I'M Jewish."  "Me too," he says.  Easily one of the dumber people I've ever encountered.  He left his textbooks in the store after he awkwardly left, too.  I wanted to throw them out so badly.

Yeah, this guy reminded me of Woody Allen in appearance and was a huge nerd.  He's asking about prices and then goes "come on man, don't Pak me" in a high-pitched whine with a crooked smile.  I couldn't believe he thought this was funny.  Come to think of it, I think he was also muttering something about not being able to get into college/get a good job, and he had a bunch of prep-books with him.  Gee, I wonder why?

Most web comics and the people who find them funny.  I am shocked when I see dozens of people praise a comic that spend several panels trying to explain the joke and why it should be funny.  Mainly because there is someone out there who spend his time to think of and then draw this comic.  The worst part is that the audience eats this shit up.  It is almost like there is a generation of people who are too stupid to understand humor these days, so they are forced to rely on comics that need to spell out the joke and why they should be laughing.  Of course, this isn't restricted to merely web comics, but they are usually the prime source of all this.  And this isn't a "I don't think it is funny so no one should think it is funny!" thing, because there are times when I can at least understand why something would be funny, but personally I don't find it that amusing.

The first half of FMJ is amazing. The second half is trash.

Whats the real ending to CO? I can't even really remember the other ending except for with the parents and his friends as cops.
It's probably a better to read it because the idea was meant as a book.  I didn't like it though and the way it's overhyped by most people who watched/read it make me hate it.  It's not even a good book and if it didn't have the shock value, it probably wouldn't even be published.

FMJ is not really that bad.  Not great in any way but it's not unwatchable.

I hate the religious people who no matter how much you reason with them, aren't willing to change their opinions because they think religion>*.  It's because of them that I can stand the atheists that act like assholes.  They're obviously doing that for fun plus they usually have a good base of evidence for all of their opinions.

The worst group of people are the misogynists though.  I'm talking about people who get angry in real life every time that they see two tits and a purse.

Logically, if you believe in a religion that offers a choice between life everlasting and paradise and torment unending in a fiery Hell, religion IS more important than everything. This is why perfectly normal-seeming housewives strap explosives to themselves and get on school buses. You can only argue with people like that on their terms, I'm afraid. Or wait for them to realize what a hollow sham it all is.

Luckily, the vast majority of "religious" people I grew up around merely paid lip-service. But if they actually did believe, I'd expect them to take it more seriously than anything else, because it would be.

it might be your most important belief but it shouldn't be used as evidence for your beliefs.  some people just cross over that line and start comparing pictures of jesus with pictures of stephen hawkins as if that somehow proves something (I saw that once on OA at least).  I'm talking about a small minority that have an irrational hatred of irreligoius people but they shit up just about every political thread unless the mods on your board are very fair.

I hope you're not including Cyanide and Happiness in that.

Excluding that comic, I agree with you.  Comics should not need to be explained as to why they are funny.  Some might require more in depth reasons why they made the topic they did but you should still see something funny.  Most web comics suck ass.  A lot of them rely on either inside jokes (who nobody outside of the creator's three friends would give a flying fuck as to what they are talking about), trying to be deep when they can't (Tim Buckley), or just plain awful (Boston and Shaun, God Mode).

The intentional misspelling of words like "moar" and "nao" and that cloying faggotry that goes through me like fucking nails on a chalkboard. It's almost like sociology professors created a clever internet viral worm to intentionally misspell some words on forums to see how many trend-seeking morons would jump on board the misspelling bandwagon, even though it isn't particularly funny and it doesn't mean nor represent anything. And jump on board they did.

Cyanide and Happiness is great, although some strips try a bit too hard to be controversial, but most are still hilarious.  PBF is also great.

And the one comic about miscarriage (I don't remember who drew it) is one of the most awful comics I have seen on the internet, and earlier today I saw a Team Fortress 2 comic that had the characters as young girls.

Internet cosplay enthusiasts who suffix their name with “-sama“ or “-chan“ or “-tan“

Anybody with even a passing knowledge of Japanese, even first semester Japanese, knows that you do not ever apply an honorific suffix to your own name. Occasional using -tan is OK only if one ridiculously is flirting with the target. And the only time to use -sama is if you are a bad guy referring to yourself as ORE-SAMA, and it’s a kids cartoon.

What about Logan-sama, famous Grime DJ (as far as grime DJs could be "famous")?

(I used to talk to him a lot on an old UK garage message board a few years before he blew up... he was definitely into anime and RPGs and stuff like that so the "sama" is probably deliberate).

Also it's interesting to read this thread some 13 years later... so many people I miss and wonder what happened to (Bildi, Tauntaun, Eel)... and a surprising amount of weeb hate compared to nowadays.

When I tap the X to get rid of the recommendation, I halfway wish it would let the person know that I am excising them from my life. The feature-converse of “these people viewed your profile.”

"You all" makes sense to some ESL, because some languages have plural forms of "you" that aren't present in English, so "Y'all" fills in that spot. :thinking
