Title: Tecmo is going down: 2 union boss ninjas sue Tecmo, more attack waves possible

The two top executives in charge of the labor union within Tecmo is suing a joint suit for unpaid wages. The suit was fighted in the Tokyo District Court yesterday, and claims that Tecmo has falsified documents and accounting procedures in regards to employment statuses, overtime pay and various lapses in employment standards when filing documents for labor inspections.

The lawsuit represents the entire company's 300 employees' grievences as a whole, and there might be a 2nd or 3rd wave of lawsuits in regards to the overall employment issue.

Famitsu's article has slightly more details. It's really lengthy and a lot of it is business terms and stuff, but generally it seems that Tecmo is in violations of a ton of employment contracts and regulations. People are apparently not being paid for working on public holidays and overtime, even though they should.

I hate how gaming companies just don't give a fuck about their employees. You can bet that these coders could probably (... ok maybe) racking in decent money working on a regular coding gig.

The gaming industry has such a shitty mentality.

That was Taito but yeah, I loved Rastan when I was little too.  It was like playing a game as the Ultimate Warrior + Conan combined.  unfortunately I could never get past the first 5 minutes :lol

I thought they were. Everything I've read about game development sounds like working in a sweatshop (well the hours...the offices are certainly plush as it gets though) and they say it's only worse in Japan.  Maybe Team Ninja is blazing some trails to decent working conditions.

This stuff just gets deeper and deeper. First the man himself, then these two, theres a rumor that 36 other team ninja "key" people are leaving too, and a lawsuit filed for ALL the employees for basically the same issues the man himself had with the company.  I see them going under and a bidding war starting for ip rights.

And so goes my hopes for a next gen sequel to Tecmo's Deception. God I loved that game. The graphics were ass back then so you can only imagine what they look like now.

yeah, not that game industry practices are healthy or sane (or legal), but 20-25 hours of overtime a week is entirely too common. for a high profile team like Team Ninja, I'd actually put it on the low side of expectations (I was fully expecting 100 hour weeks - 60-65 is "welcome to game development, intern!" levels of crunch)

Whoa. I never even knew they made one on the PS2. I'm now on a mission to hunt it down.
