I started this last night. Anyone else in?
Batbeg said he was gonna make a thread but I can't take much longer, dammit!
I love Final Fantasy IX. It is one of my favorite games. It's the first rpg I beat in one month, probably the first game I ever got truly addicted to. I played 75-80 hours of this sucker when it came out. Me and my buddy raced each other during Thanksgiving break (it came out the week before thanksgiving break! <3) and we had a blast. I beat it on Christmas that year. For some one who took 3-6 months to beat rpgs previously, by playing tiny bits at a time, this was insane for me.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to successfully replay FFIX. I've never made it off disc 1 on any of my replays. I really wanna re-experience one of my favorite games again and this time I'm gonna do it! Shitty slow ass battle system be damned!
Let the playthrough of the most underrated main series psx FF experience commence!

i'll try to get it back and rip it onto my psp or play it on my ps3. i'll see which
-
I never finished this game and one of my discs got really scratched and wouldnt read when I tried to replay

I won't replay this, but I fully support the FF IX love, my favorite FF by quite a margin

Final Fantasy IX is awesome, I never understood the hate it gets.

screen caps in a few minutes
-
I've played every FF (even XI) except 9.
I don't know why, but I would totally be in...if it wasn't for EO2 :P
-
I never did get all that far into FFIX and ought to give it a proper playthrough. Bought it and let it sit there then tried to blitz through it a short while before FFX came out and didn't get too far. I'm in.
-
Last night I couldn't get cwcheat to work so I couldn't take screens lol
So today I took the screens I posted on gaf just real quick. I got all the way to the forest last night.

FFIX's ability system is seriously one of my favorite's. It's simple but sooooo addicting.
Active Time Events need to make a return to Final Fantasy. They were AWESOME.

I've wanted to play those for the longest.

I'm in. I made an ISO for my PSP awhile ago, but I never got out of the first disc. The graphics hold up very well.

:bow FF IX :bow2
I could never understand why people didn't like it. I guess because it was missing the futuristic emo wankery of FF VII and VIII, which while I kind of enjoyed really appreciated the return to the series' roots in IX. Four characters! Fantasy setting! Vivi!
-
Even the fantasy setting in FFIX can be futuristic and high tech. I just don't get the hate against this game.
-
All the love in this thread makes me want to put down EO2 and try it. Maybe tomorrow.
-
FF7 > FF9 > FF8
but all three are REALLLY close to eachother. I love them almost equally, but 7 and 9 get the most love :(
-
Really? It's rare you see someone pool a lot of love into FF9. It's like most people didn't even play the thing.
-
FF9 is magical. I want to get lost in that cozy little world and never come back into reality :(
-
FF9 is the only RPG that actually made me smile and laugh at the characters, and even feel for Vivi. Maybe SoA made me smile a few times but that was a long time ago.
I really don't dig the third act though. Lost Odyssey has the same problem for me.
:bow Final Fantasy IX :bow2
AV unignored (http://i26.tinypic.com/212v348.gif)
:lol
I noticed that before, I wondered why that happened
-
Yep yep admiral. I find myself smiling every time I play the game. Can't say that about any other rpg. There are better rpgs out there but FFIX is just fucking magical.
-
I appreciated it way more my second time through, last year, than the first time. Really got into the characters.
First time through I was fresh off the freedom of FF8 and I was annoyed that I was forced to use the characters the game wanted me to use for the first two discs.
-
I'm finding the characters entirely refreshing more than when I first played it because they're so different compared to most jrrpgs and particularly Final Fantasy.
-
That helps too.
The writing/translation just works so well and so do the environments, Steiner is genuinely amusing and so are a lot of the other one liners. Some of the nonfunny conversations are simply pleasing too, I don't really know why. Maybe it was a mood I was in during the replay but it's unlike any other game I've played.
I stopped playing somewhere in disc 3, maybe I should replay it again. I got the ISO all set up for PSP and then played LO instead lol
-
yo himuro fyi the aries coin is one of the stelazzio coins you give to that duck looking woman in treno. make sure you find them all because its a really good way to get a blood sword for steiner earlier on (makes the underground bit in treno a walk in the park) and also to get the hammer for the extra ending
god shit like that makes final fantasy ix so good
-
Look at Himuro's posting style on GAF. It's like I'm reading one of my own posts. :lol
I'm a clear influence to Himu.

Skies of Arcadia is the only other 3D rpg I can think of that does this for me.
-
I wish there was a way to speed up the slow-ass battles :(
-
I never actually finished it because I was playing it on an emulator (didn't have a PS1 or PS2 at the time) and I messed around with the plugins to get a different game working and I lost my save file. :(
-
the ending kinda blew anyway. but add me to the lovefest. my favorite environments from any RPG ever. every level just looks soooo good. and :bow chocobo hot & cold :bow2 how many times have I maxed out the little guy? my only complaints are that 1) the story falls apart at the end, when a bunch of new shit is introduced but not elaborated on, and 2) the game just isn't that long. It only takes me about 50-55 hours to do everything in the game except for the card shit.
P.S. keep calling for the moogle on the world map and then send him away. eventually he'll threaten to stab you :lol
-
3) i can't let my obsessive desire to complete everything kick in when i play this game, because some of the mini-games are just stupid. burn in the shittiest pit of hell, Hippaul. and the window of opportunity + the amount of ridiculousness to find some of the stuff just sucks. "oh you mean that during the card tournament in treno I'm supposed to leave town, then walk halfway across the continent to meet up with the old guy that likes coffee because that's the only time in the game when I can get a certain item? It's so obvious!"
awesome game btw

PlayOnline
-
playonline will be even better when you can use your internet-connected PS2 to get great hints and tips online in real-time in FFX!
-
Curseofthegods check your PM in an hour or so
-
IX shits all over VII it's not even funny.
-
PS2 fast loading does help this, by the way. Not dramatically, but significantly. And yeah, it's definitely better than 7 or 8.
Try playing it without ever buying basic consumable items like (hi-)potions and eyedrops --- I think it's a good way to boost challenge a little bit without sacrificing fun.
-
I'm a character cigarillo when it comes to rpgs and ff9 characters don't interest.
-
thanks for the help pharmacy. I forgot.

I don't mind the story per se (or length, lol --- I think it was the longest FF for me outside of Tactics); my biggest complaint, besides the load times, is that there are just too many repetitive events where the characters draw out their shtick yet again in predictable ways, and it gets old (granted, I bring it on myself by watching all the optional ATEs, but some of them are amusing and you can't really tell the cute ones from the tedious ones without actually watching them).
Also, I like the card game and the basic setup of the Chocograph hunting, but the amount of Chocobo Hot & Cold required is way more than such a brainless (even if strangely addictive) minigame can sustain. If I were doing a personal remix I'd speed up the rewards by at least 2X.

http://pspupdates.qj.net/RS-GUI-PopStationMD-v3-0/pg/49/aid/112951
try this for multiple discs.
for very quick and simple 1 disc rip, this is the best:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/Yet-Another-GUI-for-Popstation-v1-0/pg/49/aid/77618
also, imgburn is the best for ripping disc images: http://www.imgburn.com/
:rock
-
and before ripping anything, might wanna check this list:
http://www.gamerspress.com/index.php?title=PSX_on_PSP_Compatibility_List
might come in handy.
-
what's your 8gig stick model/name?
might wanna google it, could be a known problem.
-
So did you get a multidisc rip or no? I can give you infos
-
If I can find my copy, I'll rip it to play on my PSP. :)
How would one do this, I'd be very grateful. Like cock in my mouth grateful. :hyper
-

1- rip your ps1 games with this:
http://www.imgburn.com/
or download them from torrent sites, your choice.
2- convert image file to psp eboot file format with either this:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/RS-GUI-PopStationMD-v3-0/pg/49/aid/112951
or this:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/Yet-Another-GUI-for-Popstation-v1-0/pg/49/aid/77618
2nd one is noob friendly but don't offer many features like the first one such as combining multiple game discs/changing game id/compression/theme....etc.
3- once you are done converting, you will get an eboot file + key, put them together in a folder and move it to your PSP GAME FOLDER.
have fun.
and oh, check this list for compatibility issues:
http://www.gamerspress.com/index.php?title=PSX_on_PSP_Compatibility_List
-
when i put ff9 on my psp i just did the first disc...
am i in trouble when i get to disc 2?
-
it does offer save points, right?
if so, i see no problem.
-

Thanks a lot dude, I'm going to try it out this weekend. :)

am i in trouble when i get to disc 2?
No. FF9 asks you to save between discs
-
just make sure all the discs have the same game id (they should by default.)
http://pspupdates.qj.net/RS-GUI-PopStationMD-v3-0/pg/49/aid/112951 ---> you can see/change game ids with this.
-
okay thanks
-
:bow McDragon :bow2
:-*
-
this game is so addictive
-
What the fuck.
I beat disc 1 and I did the usual thang. I saved when it prompted me to. I then overwrote my FFIX disc 1 eboot with FFIX disc 2 eboot after saving. I load up FFIX disc 2, seems to work the same disc 1 right? Well I try to continue from the beginning of disc 2 and the damn thing says "No ff9 data".
What the shit.
-
This makes no sense because the "Beginning of disc 2" save data is currently in my psp's game save files folder. So there's certainly still FFIX game save data.
-
Just make a new multidisc eboot
-
i can't i have only a 1 gig stick
-
FF9 on PSP was awesome. I need to get another slim ASAP. Best FF.
I was surprised in that recent best RPGs thread at GAF, a lot of the dumbasses over there are still operating under the delusion that FF12 wasn't a giant bowl filled with assmilk.
-
Woot! got it working! play ff9 with me, babe!
-
Woot! got it working! play ff9 with me, babe!
What was the deal?
-
memory card slots.
-
Can someone please give me a link that shows how to make it work on a PSP? I've never played FF9 before. Might as well try since the PSP library is so slim.
-
These are all in my favorites but I don't remember which ones I used.
