thought it was okay, but I don't understand how some people say it's the best RPG (or GAME) they've ever played.  gameplay's fun, but it gets old fast.  also the whole OMG SIDE-SCROLLING thing doesn't matter because the platforming and controls blow.  oh and the story is total shit - boring and occasionally incomprehensible.  and the music sucks.  I've tried to play through this game four times, and no luck yet.

yeah i didn't get the hype

i think it was the scarcity of the game plus the internet hype made VP out to be this great uber game.

sadly, people are radically mistaken

however, i still have love for tri-ace

Star Ocean 2, bitches

yeah star ocean 2 was great.  amazing ai that really helped out in battle, an awesome crafting system that always made useful items, a compelling story with well-translated and intresting scenes, and FUN CITY

Yeah, it was a pretty boring game.  I played for 30 mins or so but I thought it was just me.

Could not get into the game at all. The gameplay was pretty standard stuff, and as someone already mentioned it was hard to navigate. I made it through the first dungeon, but I won't ever play it again.

You people suck, VP1 is better than VP2 and one of the best games ever made... awesome fast paced combat, awesome dungeons, crazy challenge level (even if it has that tri-Ace problem of steep difficulty spikes every so often), and I liked the music too. The story can be pretty incomprehensible, and the requirements for the best ending are ridiculous, I'll give you that. But saying it's "pretty standard stuff", huh ???

VP1 is my favorite RPG of all time, and the only RPG i've completed 7+ times. So good.

I said that the gameplay is pretty standard JRPG fare, with some 2d platforming. The combat system is essentially the same as all other turn-based RPGs. Did I miss something?

*oops: I forgot to add that you can combo

what i hate is the 2d bullshit, especially with the 2nd game.

ugly shit.

VP2 is pretty awesome, the original is pretty good but gets more hype than it should due to scarcity and rabid fanboyism.  Kind of like Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Also, McDragon is a turd.

absolutely disgusting.

I think most of the frustration comes from its esoteric design.  It's not a conventional JPRG at all and I had to read some faqs to even understand some of the basic systems.  When everything became clear I enjoyed it much more.  It's a slow burn, though.

Here I thought it was just me. The game looks nice enough, but I couldn't get into it despite repeated tries. It's been sitting in the backlog pile forever.

absolutely disgusting.

actually, that would really sanitize your ass.

VP1 is alright.  I've never made it to the end though.  At some point, I found I was spending more time distributing the million different types of points you earn than actually playing, so I quit.  Also, the best ending run is SHIT.

I really like the battle system and dungeons though.

I think I've just made a connection. Is your name, "The Card Cheat" based off of The Clash song by the same name?

I tried to like VP1, but I hated that you could screw up your game by doing things wrong, and that the only way to get the best ending was to use an FAQ since you had to do illogical things to get it.  Also, playing the game at the pace required to get the good endings required you to constantly push forward, fighting tough monsters, and if you didn't have the right gear you'd be fucked.

I'm probably a pansy gamer, but I like VP2 much more if only because it lets me play at my own pace without fear or getting a "bad" ending.

VP2 graphics is shite though it does feel better gameplay-wise.

I think VP2 looks rather nice most of the time.  Some of the textures are very shimmery, though.

cutscenes are pretty horrible and i don't find 2.5d impressive for an rpg title.
