You should love H3 then, it has some nice throwbacks to the best Halo1 levels, but turned up a couple of notches.

Leven 2 (crow's nest) has amazing close quarters combat and cool level design (just looks a bit grey). Some of the brute encounters on level 2 on heroic or legendary are insane, forces you to really explore and use the environment. Didn't like it the first time, loved it the second and third time because I got into nooks and cranies I hadn't gone to before to get the upper hand.

Halo 1 is awesome.

Too bad it went all downhill after that one.

Bungie should've spent more time on the campaign mode of Halo 2 and Halo 3. Both are VERY mediocre.
I haven't even finished the Halo 3 campaign because it was boring as hell.

I recently replayed a few of the better Halo 3 campaign levels with an interested friend.  It was pretty damn good, and a lot of fun, though forcing 4:3 in split-screen is total shit.  Halo's knocked for being a typical/generic FPS, but I can't think of any FPSes with the same style of single player gameplay in the more open levels... Crysis maybe has a similar sandbox on rails feel, but it's much more realistic and doesn't have the same vehicle fun.

Plus it cuts off the sides in standard definition on co-op. Utter bullshit.

I started playing this game but was sidetracked by MGS4 and COD4... gonna play it once I'm finished with those 2. I've played through 2 and three, might as well try the original. But honestly, repetitive enemies, and extremely repetitive level design, with boards stretching on forever, I find it really boring to trudge through. Halo 3's levels were nice and compact, with tons of setpieces, IMO that game has the best single player of the series by far.

I've never finished the game for this very reason. The indoor environments with the flood killed the game for me.

I don't agree at all. Halo 2 sucks, SP at least.

But Halo 3 is godly > Halo 1. Halo 3 is everything that was good about Halo 1 but better.

Come on, it's like saying Half-Life sucks because Gordon Freeman wears glasses... who cares in an FPS.
(obviously there are fucktards that do, and they are worthy of mockery.  I'm just not sure they're posting in this thread)
