Title: All aboard the EB Ticket to Ride Hypetrain
Post by: pilonv1 on June 25, 2008, 07:13:48 AM
This game is so simple yet so much fun.

In my first game I had destination card (bonus points for making a trip) from Dulith to Houstin. But the homo AI had a train from San Antonio to Houston so I had to go via Memphis. So I set up my awesome route from LA to EL PASO to Dulith to Chicago and was making my way down to Houston, and that cunt put a train RIGHT from Memphis to Houston and fucked me over. :punch

At least I had the longest continuous ride 8)

Everyone get this. The old timey music is great too. Well worth 800 points.

So is this primarily multiplayer?

Yes. Single player is still fun but the real fun comes from screwing over other people.

Can you give a quick summary of the game before I give it a DL?  Never heard of this card game

It's a board game. You basically have a bunch of trains to make tracks across the USA and you get more points for making train lines between big cities, or for cities you have in your destination card.

Get the demo, it's awesome fun.

Tried the tutorial in the demo and thought to myself "holy christ this is boring"  but then spent some time playing an entire game and I totally got into it.  I love being able to screw people over by building a route between cities forcing your opponent to go all the way the fuck around.  Definite buy.

BTW, how many maps are there in the full game?

I think this is ok. I won my match, I completed three destinations, but couldnt come up with any fucking Oranges to complete my fourth, so I got docked points. I think there's too many duplicate colors in the face-up pile all the time.

Is there any strategy to just making random trains? It seemed to be what the AI was doing.

1 map so far HSMP. There will be more - achievements were leaked with Europe listed. There's a few other maps (Switzerland and something else) for the real board game.

I think the strategy is to complete your destination cards, but also connect major cities. I got lucky in one of my games that I had already completed a destination as I drew the card, so I got a bonus 4 points. The bigger the city/track the more points you get I think.

Not a bad game at all.  I won my trial match by 1 point!  100 to 99.  I got docked major points for having one of the destinations not done yet.  Is there an indicator for when the round is about to end? Because I drew that last destination like two turns before "Final Turn" came up, and obviously wouldn't have if I knew the round was about to end.

Nice game, though.  I might buy, dunno yet.
