I thought it was better than Luminous Arc? So far its slow and boring, unlike Luminous Arc. Boom
-
F you. I made a fool of myself calling out EO2.
I was wrong, EO2 is better, but FFTA:2 is more playable.
-
the ownage is astronomical
-
FFTA2 is pretty sloooow and the main character is booooring and the story is so utterly convenient zzzzzzzzz
-
luminous arc isnt slow and boring?
BIZZARO
-
luminous arc is 26 hours of awesome focused animu story. What happened to FFTA2 rocking Viz? Where's the rocking? Did I need to pre-order the game somewhere special to get the rockage? Was it best buy that gave out the good gameplay with FFTA2? shit, all i got was a Gamestop bag.

haha poor viz
-
SHINE
-
that's right, pure awesome. unlike dumb FFTA2 which is better than Advil PM
-
FFTA2 is pretty dumb. The story still hasn't started.
Wait, here's the story
"You mean if I just do quests, the journal will fill up and I can go home? Great!"
Viz, you lied to me, I'd rather hunt fat tittied witches in the name of God
-
The narrative is really just too literal. Its like they're reading the instruction book to me.
-
Fucking ban Viz already
-
Jesus, this is a fuckin debacle isnt it
-
So its just as shitty as the first game like I've been saying since it was first announced. :lol
-
Fucking ban Beezy already, uppity black people irk me
-
No way, I need help against the FFTA fanboys. Beezy stays
-
DEMI, TELL ME HOW MY ASS TASTE
-
FFTA is a fantastic and fun videogame that I enjoyed playing.

FFTA2 is even better. :heart
-
Bwahahahaha
-
Can you at least compare weapon and armor stats in this one?
-
There's a 'dressing room' at the shop now.
-
Can you at least compare weapon and armor stats in this one?
Yes you can
-
I thought everyone had decided story in videogames was passe anyway? ??? Man, I can't keep up with the cool kids anymore.

ffta2 is perhaps the most perfunctory tactical s-rpg ever made. it's the skeleton of a real s-rpg. normally, i am all for casting aside story and characters to focus on the core gameplay, but in the case of ffta2, it has resulted in some of the most sterile scenarios and useless character development decisions ever. it's the opposite of, say, a blizzard game: everything has been made so generic and reductive that the whole experience is meaningless. it's like doing your checkbook, only with bad animu art. i'm still having a certain level of fun, because i am the sort of person who as a child would play with a calculator for amusement, but this is some seriously dull shit. it might as well be sudoku, since its whole design thrust seems to be "occupy the player's time" with little ambition beyond that.
also WHY THE FUCK DOES IT TAKE SO LONG FOR THE CPU TO MOVE. if you're gonna make a perfunctory game, pass that efficiency on to the interface. disgaea can get pretty dry, too, but at least it's snappy!
-
I know... battles take sooooo long. I think I've done like 25 quests so far. They gave me a Mark against a Level 44 wizard, this early in the game too. I'm like... yeah, no
-
I'm sorta enjoying it, even if I have better things to be playing on DS right now.
And I hate the CPU and its slooow speed and the story sucks. But the core gameplay's entertaining enough.
-
The core gameplay would be far more interesting if I didnt have disgaea PSP
-

Or if it didn't suck lol.
-
Oh man, that was good. Good slam!
-
why do you guys buy games you know will be shitty :'(
-
cause its fun to buy! :( :( :(
-
why do you guys buy games you know will be shitty :'(
I'm pretty sure nobody said they were getting luminous arc 2
-
Oh viz, such a sore horribly wrong about FFTA2 loser
-
i haven't even played it yet
but my precognition tell me its better already
-
How many more times must that little gamer and his wallet die, Viz?
-
why do you guys buy games you know will be shitty :'(
Yeah, why do they buy them, smh
-
'nother game that, when announced, sounds like it'll be amazing. but then fails to live up to the hype. see also: Nights 2.
-
who the fuck thought this pos would be amazing?
-
really the only handheld rpg anyone should be playing right now is EO2
-
I'm enjoying it as an alternative to EO2 at bedtime. EO2 is brilliant and all, but I need to accomplish something in my pre bedtime sessions, and that is getting harder in EO2 :(
-
who the fuck thought this pos would be amazing?
people who didn't think "sequel to FFTactics:Advance" but instead thought "sequel to FFTactics" when it was announced.
TWEWY is my DS rpg of choice right now. I'm too soft for EO :'(
-
EO2 isn't really hard after the first level or two. The trick is just to grind the fuck out of it and build up your characters into badasses. I fuck owned Chimera last night- Issen/All-out/Ricochet X2 = Chimera with a sore ass from my HUGE COCK.
-
Should you play EO1 first?
I'm digging FFTA2 by the way.
-

I just recently got a DS, but from what I understand it's not necessary to play EO1. Which is good because it's like, impossible to find and shit.
-
EO1 and EO2 go hand in hand because its more of AWESOME
-
THE WAITING FOR ENEMY TURNS IS UNENDURABLE

-
Umm maybe its because I dont play alot of srpgs, but Im currently addicted. The 'story' to me is what goes down in the non story progressing quests.
Ive played much slower tactics games.
-
Yeah its cause you dont play many. Ive played many better SRPGs prior to FFTA2, its too bad
-
K, I'm buying either Luminous Arc or TA2 tomorrow. Which should it be? Loved Tactics, love Fire Emblem, hated Tactics Advance, The only thing putting me off about Luminous Arc is that it seems too simple from what I've heard/read. I don't want to get bored halfway through and never pick it up again. Still, based on what you guys say, Tactics Advance 2 doesn't seem to be much better than it's prequel. Halp.
-
hated Tactics Advance
Then why would you even think about picking up the sequel? It's basically the same boring shit.
I've never played a Luminous Arc game, so I can't comment on that.

What didn't you like about FFTA? Because FFTA2 fixes almost all of the problems FFTA had except for the story, which happens to be surprisingly worse. I am really enjoying the game so far.
I don't know much about Luminous Arc, but after reading this review (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3161958&p=39) I don't think I'll even bother to try it.
-
in all seriousness, i prefer luminous arc. it's a bit dry itself (mechanically), but it's not as shallow as, say, onimusha tactics or saiyuki. tactics advance 2 has mechanics in spades, but it's all wrapped in obnoxiously slow gameplay, uninteresting combat scenarios (bad map design, specifically), and a complete lack of plot ("yay! i am in ivalice!" "what now?" "YAY!"). it IS pretty to look at (for a ds game), even if the hitches and general sluggishness of feedback, menus, and turns massively detracts from the overall polish.
i'd say get disgaea psp instead of either! (or wild arms xf, if you want depth and crazy-hard challenge.)

that review's #1 complaint -- the lousy touch-screen support -- also exists in identical form with ffta2. you shouldn't use a touchscreen with a console-style tactics game, anyhow -- it's slow and inefficient!
-
also, what problems did ffta2 fix from ffta? it seems to have all the same problems, only now it's slow as hell.
-
Touch Screen in LA isnt something you should use, but keep in mind once you decide to use it I believe youre stuck with it for that saved game. I used the stylus with LA for 26 hours lol ;(

What bothered me was the bit about it being a unpolished FFTA clone. However, I am intrigued by the multiplayer options and it does seem to have a better art direction than FFTA2 (despite the worst graphics and effects).
-
Its got a better story than FFTA thats for fucking sure. A lot of people hero worship the awful FFTA games thanks to the FFT pedigree, but LA isnt the horrible game they attempt to make it look to be so that the FFTA series can stand alone looking better than it actually is.

• The UI is VASTLY improved over FFTA. It's much less of a hassle to see the abilities on an item and the abilities of your characters.
• Score is fantastic (because it remixes FFXII and FFT tracks lol).
• All characters get experience, whether they fight or not. More experience is gained to those who participate more. There's an MVP system. AP points are spread to all party members equally after a fight. It's much easier to master an ability.
• The battlefields are gorgeous 2D. The spells have some beautiful 3D effects. Huge upgrade over FFTA.
• The law system has been overhauled. At the start of every battle you can choose from a list of clan privileges that can boost specific stats. If you break a law, you'll lose the privilege and you won't be able to resurrect any characters. There are no other penalties (it's actually fun now).
• MP system works similarly to Tactics Ogre I think. Everyone begins with no MP and gains an amount at the beginning of every turn, keeping casters consistently useful.
• The overworld/map building elements have been changed entirely (for the better). Traveling and taking over areas are much more accessible and intuitive now. Gone are the disappearing regions from the first game.
-

Im pretty sure you could change it by hitting select or something ???

You can stop using Touch SCreen? I swear I wasnt given the option to
-
So should I look into FFTA2 or no? I did enjoy the original a good bit, even if I only got halfway through it.

i don't see the ui improvements, and now, it's slow to boot. it's still no fun to navigate -- in particular, it's a pain to evaluate the skills tied to items.
visuals, bah. it's low-res, lo-fi ds crap. i don't play these games for the graphics, anyhow.
i appreciate the overhauls to the mp system and to the law/judge system, but for this step forward, we have weaker maps overall (compared to ffta) and the distinguished mentally-challenged auction system. i do like the bazaar approach for increasing store inventories, though.
taking over areas is better? the distinguished mentally-challenged auction crap is a HUGE step back. i wanna fight for control, not play some gimpy mini-game!
all the pluses are rendered null by the SLUGGISHNESS of the ui and the enemy turns. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

You get an option at the beginning of the game iirc, but after you select that its what you have to use the rest of the game. Least thats how I remember it.

You really should play the original again if you think the UI hasn't improved in the sequel. It's not great (as you mentioned), but it's way better than what we had before. :spin
As for fighting for power, you still do in this one (quite a bit in fact) -- but only after playing the stupid gimpy minigame. :P
-
I think you have acquired add Prole. Its sluggish but not unbearable.
There are plenty of maps with unique terrain setups that forces you to consider jobs with better move/jump stats. Some even use landmarks on the map and tie it into the requirements for a mission (protect the tree)
Overanalyze much, mr cynical?
Not that its perfect, but there's alot to appreciate past its flaws.
-
Mm, I'll probably end up snagging FFTA2 first then. I wasn't aware that they revamped the law system; that shit made me hate it's predecessor. I am still worried about just how terrible the story really is, but I suppose I can ignore it. Soundtrack sounds good, and I like the changes to the XP/MP. What's this auction system thing?
-
There isnt that much to appreciate past its flaws. Like Crisis Core it is a title soley manufactured to sell to shmucks
