Because it's a little unsettling to me when reading it. I would say even if there is a tiny, tiny chance of such a catastrophic event occurring, they should not be doing this stuff.

When they did the testing for the first atomic bomb, there was a contingent of scientists who thought it might set the atmosphere on fire.

"If I thought that this was going to happen, I would be well away from here," he said.
How many movies started off this way?

Yeah, but we've come a long way in our understanding of these things since then. These experiments they want to conduct in this new machine have never been done before, and no one can really say with certainty what will happen. There is a quote from a physicist in that article that says there is a 1 in 50 million chance of a cataclysmic event occurring to the earth. That is some pretty scary shit if you ask me.
I just don't want scientists playing games with the world because they're "curious" about dark matter. This isn't their playground to do whatever the fuck they want with it. This story has been done thousands of times before in movies, and sooner or later the frankenstein story is gonna come true.

Why would that scare anyone?
I'd imagine it would only scare a few people. Hans, Tigerriot, TJHooker, GoFreak, Evilore, etc.

If you think me knocking down dumb bullshit people spew about the PS3 means I'm some sort of Sony champion, you need to ask yourself what that says about you.

I read the same story like a decade ago; and then a few years ago, I read it was a prank from a (no shit, im not fucking with you guys) from a bunch of scientists that started making up those crazy experience and try to get them in the medias; and the story about a crazy black hole experience was an exemple of stuff they tried to get in the medias.
Their point is that how medias dont bother to do basic research.

There is a documentary on the building of this on Discovery or the History channel. It's a pretty huge machine for throwing atoms at each other. I think one of the experiments is trying to create a self sustainable means of creating all the electricity the world would ever need.
