THE BORE

...in nearly every way. The plot is dumber and (amazingly) even more ridiculous, it's surprising pretty da' gone funny (although whether most of the laughs are intentional or not is anyone's guess), and the action is indescribably insane. The better action scenes appear to have been storyboard'd by a 12 year old with G.I. Joes and matchbox cars after getting up from a Die Hard with a Vengeance/The Rock double-header. The main cast is really the only slacking category: Angelina ain't got shit on Monica Bellucci, Morgan Freeman has a good line or two, but is largely wasted in a typical Morgan Freeman-esque role, and our main character never gets to be as cool as Clive Owen. I don't recall Common saying a single word in the entire flick.
I wasn't kidding in the Wall-E thread. I saw this instead and I don't regret it. The middle sags a bit, but the rest is action madness.

i really wish these types of movies interested me more. seriously, everyone seems to love them, but I can't do it. I get bored.

This movie is particularly notable for me as it's the first movie I've EVER been to where people in the audience were yelling at the screen. Wall-E being the only big release this week stole away all the sensible people.

? I'm not sure what you're getting at, but that's not an action movie. I'm not into most pure action movies in general. I get bored. I see one spectacle, I've seen them all I guess. They all feel like the same movie to me. Just different strokes. Most girls I know love movies like this too :'(

Go watch Sex and the City, Mupepe.
-
but you do like that movie, right? i do. i mean, when they finally make love; brad taking her dad away at the end... :'( i also liked that other movie with pitt, legends something.
... i needed to get this off my chest.

what the fuck...

I saw some of Night Watch by the same director.
He's so consistently over the top that it doesn't really give him anywhere to go when something actually important or dramatic is happening. He uses the same frantic zooms to show someone standing on the subway as he does for action sequences so it winds up just feeling flat after a while.
Least plausible part of the trailer? Guy googles for Wesley Gibson and gets no results. Come on!

I think this is probably why I thought the middle sagged a bit, in spite of a lengthy action sequence involving a train tumbling down a massive gorge.

I thought that too. He didn't even wrap it in quotation marks. Give me a break!

I really didn't care for Shoot 'Em Up, but I found this very enjoyable. Solid rental. Great climax.

Wanted is teh pwn. I was so pumped after watching it I totally popped like 8 boners and killed people. :gun
-
I kinda liked Shoot 'em Up, but I still have a hard time believing this movie can be any good at all after seeing the trailers, even with all the good reviews it getting and people saying it's good. I'll give it a rental though, my standards when it comes to renting movies are extremely low.
-
it's just okay. it's like a coherent night/daywatch with a more internally consistent plot but less imaginative visuals, and a streak of cranky teenaged misanthropy a mile long. the very last line was lol jeff bell dumb. it'd a fun rental, and i shoulda seen kung fu panda instead. also angelina jolie's lips are starting to kinda scare me.

I TOLD YOU TO RENT IT, PROLE!

Rental totale. The movie is good but not mind-blowingly fantastic. Great setting. The story is sort of simplistic despite a really good setup. I disagree with the hate for the direction (I really loved Night Watch), if anything i think the movie needed more zany action and less dialog for him to really have his way with it. There are a couple of great action scenes but his talent is wasted with some of the dialog scenes and things that are supposed to play emotionally.
I know some people here at work tho who lost their minds over it. One guy I know said it was the best action movie since The Matrix. I don't know which version of the movie he watched. He saw the midnight showing Thursday (first showing), maybe it was the extra awesome version with more action.
Also, Angelina is still beautiful in this, but she's looking a bit too thin these days for my tastes, and I'm a hella anti-fat guy :(

i'd say Wanted is like Shoot 'em Up with an attempt at a real story.
still badass though. i liked both.
edit: rat part was shit

I saw this yesterday as I wanted to see it on the big screen before it left. Overall I'm glad I went as it was a fun movie, but it was so derivative that it was distracting. So many borrowed lines and themes, it was basically like Matrix meets Empire Strikes Back with a pistol taking the place of lightsabers. Jolie was given nothing to do, and the rest of the cast of baddies was insignificant to say the least. The lead character had bad teeth and the way he looked like his head would blow up was off-putting. When he told his boss to STFU I laughed and I don't think I was supposed to, there were a lot of moments like that.
That said, the action was balls to the wall, some of those car stunts were visually fantastic. I thought for a bit that the climax was going to be held for a sequel, so it was nice to see everything wrapped up. In the end the lead did a good job, but everyone else was forgettable. I didn't even realize 'Common' was famous until reading an eb thread. Wasn't that barber the guy from Batman Begins? The movie was brutal fun, but don't think too hard. It will make your brain hurt.

It definitely was not the 'next coming' as GAF had led me to believe. I'm glad I didn't go into this movie hyped up as it would have been a let-down. As is, it had several memorable scenes which made it worth the price of admission.
