I bought a used copy (GCN) before 2 months approx but never opened it (because of the backlog). Do I need to bother? My current strategy is to finish FF12 (early in the game), then play DQ8 and P3, then replay Star Ocean2 and Legend of Dragoon. Then play Skies of Arcadia.

Some people praise it. hope it's as good as they say.

The battles are soooo slow and so frequent :( I just don't have that kind of patience anymore. I've failed on every subsequent replay. But it was fun the first time.

Just think of them as codec cutscenes and I'm sure you'll find them more palatable.

I hate codec cutscenes. I don't understand the Metal Gear contingent that wants more and more codec sequences.

People talk about the sense of exploration (which is really quite cool), but it is so tough to just explore freely with the random battle encounter rate as it is. You can fly "above" the clouds or whatever and skip it out but I believe you miss out on a number of discoveries.

Skip FF12 and Legend of Dragoon, play DQ8 and SO2... not sure what to do about P3 yet...

Real MGS fans want more optional codec sequences, not more in general. They do wonders in fleshing out the world and would've helped MGS4 from having such generic locales.

Skies of Arcadia is the best RPG I have ever played, and it's one of my favourite games of all time. I have never played a JRPG that had the same charm and sense of exploration as Skies of Arcadia. Graphics may have not aged well, but the addicting gameplay and GREAT soundtrack are still there.

It's not without its flaws, though. The frequency of random battles is pretty high (but not unbearable), and the game is not very challenging if I recall correctly.

Then the "exploration" is bullshit because everything's arbitrarily blocked off until the story lets you get there. When you do you're disappointed because instead of being some kind of mind-blowing level, it's just another town based on a real-world local or a shit dungeon in a sewer or mine or something. The only thing left is the supposed charm of the story, which i guess is great if you love shitty anime because this game contains every single cliche that a japashit story could have. FUCK THIS GAME
