A singer who was to perform the "Star Spangled Banner" at the presentation of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's State of the City address yesterday substituted the "Black National Anthem" without notifying anyone, because she says as a black, she just doesn't feel American.

Ship her ass to Africa then, we'll see how much of an American you feel after a couple of months over there.  SMH.

Check out this article from that site.

(http://www.glennbeck.com/images/news/2008/06/Hajib-Campaign.jpg)

THOR: There is. There has been this movement afoot in a couple of different places. Last year we heard a very radical cleric in Australia say that Australian women, even non-Muslims who don't decide to cover up, wear the berka, they are like uncovered meat and they are asking for it. Now there is a PR campaign in Egypt where they are showing this picture, which I understand I've sent to Stu.

GLENN: I got it. I got it right here. Let me show it to the Insiders.

THOR: It is a picture of a covered lollipop with a fly hovering over it. This is out of Egypt. And an uncovered lollipop completely covered with flies.

GLENN: Yes.

THOR: And the radicals are telling women, if you don't wear the berka, you are asking to be raped. You are like a lollipop with the wrapper off of it.

People like this fucking disgust me.  Ok so she doesn't feel American good for her but I'm sure everyone else there did feel American and she knew she wasn't invited to sing what she chose.  (Searches travelocity for one way tickets to buy her)

FOC, dont derail my thread!!  :maf

edit: I would discuss your post if it was in its own thread, as it should be.

But I agree with Tauntaun, ship her to Africa or somewhere else that has less rights for women and see how long she feels unamerican then.

Quote
Lift ev'ry voice and sing,
Till earth and heaven ring.
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise,
High as the list'ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet,
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might,
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee,
Shadowed beneath thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land.

wait, so aside from not singing what was expected, what was so bad about what she DID sing?

Yeah I mean she can live here and feel all the unamerican she wants but if you're invited somewhere to sing something specific LIKE OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM then you sing it and not anything else.  That's just rude what she dide.

honestly, the song itself is a nice one. But she was asked to sing the national anthem and instead sung what is know as the black national anthem, and her reason is because she feels unamerican. That second part is why she has so much anger directed at her. I could care less that she sung the black national anthem. The song itself is sung in churches too. Its just the way she did it that bugs me.

This. You're hired to sing a specific song, you don't want to sing that song, so you don't decline, you decide to piss everyone off and sing a different song?

Her reason:

"because she says as a black, she just doesn't feel American."

So, since you're a black woman, you don't feel like an american. So instead of singing the US National Anthem you were brought in to do, you sing the Black National anthem in front of a bunch of white people? Hmm.....

I just realized that someone with a working GAf account should post the story there too. Be interesting to see if any arguments flare up about it or not.

But I still believe she either should have sung the US National Anthem as asked, or not sung at all.
