And I don't care much for character interaction in HL2 if only because Gordon Freeman makes Master Chief seem like a good character. Why Alyx or anyone else would want to hang around with this mute jackass who stands on your head as they talk to you is just confusing.

but I am saying that as horrible as Master Chief is as a character, Gordon Freeman is makes him seem like a reasonably decent one. And I don't care if he is deliberately mute, he is still a bad character. If he is meant to reflect the player, then I guess never talking to Alyx is a pretty good way of digging at the nerds playing it. I don't think non-speaking characters are naturally bad, but in Half-Life's case they have you interacting with other people, yet it is ridiculous in those scenes. An example of good characterization for a non-speaking character who is to represent the player is Portal. Portal should be taught in school about how to do good video game story telling.
