Dell was probably unloading some older laptops. The base XPS M1330 is now configured with a T5750 on their website.

I also applied some Staples e-coupons.

Need this in Steam form and wanted to support Tilted Mill's effort to go indie with the game. $20 is cheap to boot.

I played the game when it came out a few years ago. It was a revelation to see a city-builder game actually do more than represent the population of a city with cold numbers and city service walkers and turn it into a place where the members population was modeled as part of the simulation as well.

Tilted Mill added a lot of stuff in this new edition (there is a patch with the new stuff for existing owners). They are hoping to start creating new content for the game as pay-for downloads going forward.

Oh, and they are announcing a new fantasy-based game on Friday, probably going to be a cross between city-builder and role-playing game judging from their teaser pics on their website. Concept art looks HOT.

I tried to buy a refurbished laptop several months ago, but the site was out of stock. They update their inventory like once a day, or something. So I bought the thing, but they emailed me a day later saying they didn't have that model in stock anymore.

I was thinking of buying MSI Wind. They haven't shipped any models with a 6-cell battery yet, so I've been waiting. Then I saw the 1330 at Staples and thought it would make more sense. It was only about $300 more, and 1.5 pounds heavier.

Think it could handle say, Neverwinter Nights 2 or Company of Heroes? at 30fps or so?

unfortunately the prices on dell's Japanese site are waaaaaaaaaay higher than at Staples :(

Congrats on the house DCharlie!!! I find it amazing the amount of people who get a piece of your buying pie in the whole process. Mafia like.

It will feel good making a mortgage payment vs. throwing the money away on rent. I hope you got a good interest rate.

My rate was 2.8%, fixed over 35 yrs :D

If there's one thing Japan does right, it's mortgage interest rates.

The benefits of living in a zero inflation world. Although all that looks like changing soon, my rate is still fixed :D

Why anyone would take a variable rate mortgage over that length of time is beyond me. Yet apparently most people do.

It's beyond me as well. However, some people don't have the option of a fixed rate mortgage, which lead to our current housing conundrum back in the States..

I guess in the US there is the phenomenon of people treating a house purchase as a rental, with no intention of living there after the variable rate mortgage comes up for reevalution. It's all fine as long as you can sell up at a profit and 'rent' somewhere else on comparable terms. At some point, people get burned with that approach of course.

Exactly. As sad as it is, some people just aren't meant to own homes.

yes, i will be going fixed rate for certain - no point in gambling when the rates look like they'll be on the up and up.

What's going on with the housing market in Japan at the moment? I'd love to hear how things are in comparison to the U.S.
