Title: MY NEW APARTMENT IS FUCKING FLOODED
Post by: GilloD on July 10, 2008, 12:09:38 AM
So I haven't even had my new apartment for 5 hours and it's already a catastrophic mess. After work I headed over to the space with my roomies just to flip the switches, turn on the burners, test the A/C, nuts and bolts shit. While we're there, it starts to pour pretty hard. I jokingly say, "This is a good test!". No sooner do the words leave my mouth than a strange noise starts to come from downstairs.

The two bedrooms are flooded. Water is literally gushing from the ceilings. It's pouring out of the light fixtures, streaming down the walls. The ceiling starts to buckle.

Luckily we hadn't signed the lease yet, but this place was a dream and a steal. Now I know why. Fuckin UGH, though. And I lost my keys, too. Shit fuck and my netflix are 4 days late, the fucking mailman stole them again FUCK COCK ASSHOLE

1- Fuck you, it's a new topic because it's a completely OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN

2- Yeah, it's better than if we'd been there a week, but spare me the pep talk.

Is your wife alright?

Yeah, she's fine. It was just shocking to like. There was a moment where someone almost beat us to the deposit, so it was a roller coaster all day long. And like... We were there bathing in the pure opiate joy of a real estate deal and then. You walk into your new bedroom and the ceiling is buckling and there's three inches of water on the floor and a waterfall gushing out of your recessed lighting.

Oh holy crap, that sucks.

You said you didn't sign the lease yet, which is good. Do you still have a place to stay though?

Shouldn't they tell you such flaws? that's basis for breaking the contract if you had signed it and they hadn't told you about it.

Exactly. So the position is this (Ugh, I barely slept, I look like th fat guy from Mad Men)- He's going to tell me whether this is like a weekend, send in a crew, tear down the ceiling, get it done in two days job or if it's a "I have to disassemble the whole unit" job. If its the former, we'll still move in, but with the caveat that at the first fucking sign of water on the walls he forefits our security and last month and we walk.

But man. You should have seen it. It wasn't even a trickle, it was a gush. In a few days it will be hilarious.

Shitty news is shitty.  :(  Hopefully this gets sorted to your satisfaction, but that sucks.  Some of my buddies in Atlanta had an awesome loft where the basement would flood during rainstorms, poor bastards.

Damn, and I was looking forward to crashing the place! But yeah, good luck in the hunt for another apartment... thankfully you found out about the leaky ceiling before you signed the contract. Did you have all your stuff moved in yet? Anything get destroyed in the flood?

Nah, nothing moved in. It was just an up/down/up/down day. We're looking at some more places and I'm waiting to hear from the broker, we might just move on. I'm glad we found now, it was juat a heartbreaker

Yeah, I like the place, but I'm just. There was already some minor water damage in the one room, so I had that on the lease- That it'd be fixed or we'd scram. So I'm thinking this is perpetual. I hope we can get our deposit back. We'll see, I'm gonna give the broker a ring in a bit
