I saw it for the first time the other day, since my g/f had just read the book.
I liked it, but not head over heels. I feel like it really came close to being too melodramatic, but it was still a good watch. Dunkirk was amazing. At the same time though I felt like they needed more time given to the relationship of the mains in the first act. They introduce all these largely useless characters instead and by act 3 you don't have much to go on. They should have included some of the prison/war letters that were apparently in the book to tie the room together.
I'm typing this while standing in a territory in Halo, sorry if this post sucks

I saw it back when it came out, and was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. I had never read the book, and knew basically nothing about it, but I ended up loving the movie. The acting was great, and I thought the ending was fantastic. I think it did seem a little short, probably needing a little more to flesh out relationships and characters, but overall it was one of my surprise favorites of last year.
