I am totally pumped for some Star Ocean 4. I just hope they have more of a focus on the scifi aspect, like traveling to different planets and such. But even if it doesn't, I love the look of those environments, especially that third shot.

My most wanted game right now, fuck I want this even more than FFXIII... :bow tri-Ace :bow2

I guess "Roke" is the official US romanization for "Roak", the planet where much of SO1 took place on. Looks so fucking awesome, amazing graphics.
-
even after the abysmal so3 i find myself highly drawn to this series yet again. i guess it was because the gameplay in the trailer was amazing looking and looked 60fps to boot. :hyper
-
looks awesome :hyper
-
there are a few new trailers on ign. a couple are character trailers :hyper
streaming only right now tho.
EDIT: GODDAMIT IGN PUT STAR OCEAN 1&2 PSP IN THE LAST HOPE SECTION
-
Is this one of those "you are going to be lost if you didn't play the others" games?
-
Nope, all the games have been self contained in their own universes. There's some callbacks but nothing that hinges on you playing S01,2 and 3
-
whee at least those ign videos gave release dates for first departure (october 21) and second evolution (january 6).
-
i hope there aren't too many annoying characters. in some ways the old rpgs were better without voice actors.

Totally agree with you on that one... RPG text is fun to read, but when it's spoken out loud, it's usually quite embarrassing... especially if someone who is unfamiliar with the game and the context of the dialogue is in the room. Plus, it's easier to read and cycle through text than there is waiting for characters to unconvincingly act out their lines.

Thank you.

Love the art style. Never played a SO game before, what are they all about?

Heavily influenced by Star-Trek, usually involving people from a technologically advanced civilization (future Earth) landing on a backwater planet, having to obey the Prime Directive and all that jazz.

for one of the star ocean characters to suffer a violent yet monumentally worthwhile death halfway through the story that makes a significant plot point which becomes a major development for the main character, turning him into an angry, lost, suicidal maniac - hence the only reason he would willingly fight the last boss which is a sheer uphill battle likely to end in death.
OH I KNOW! and how about the average age of the characters to be 28 and not 17? seriously, what the fuck does a seventeen year old know about saving the universe. you have to be at least 24 for it to be believable because before that it's all about jacking off and popping zits.

That's why these days if the voice acting is bad I either switch the language to see if it's any better or switch it off completely if it's possible. I find games with no voices to be far more immersive than the ones with the annoying acting.
