Title: Sudan's president charged with genocide in dumb, counterproductive move.

Slightly old news (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gMU9_nxHnfBspo342jYG0nXyx7-gD91TQODO0) but hasn't been discussed here.

I actually do think this is a bad idea, but I'm damn ignorant about the whole thing and this is 50% a FoCesque attempt to troll someone into educating me, or at least pointing me in the right direction.

Satire needs to wink at the audience!

Me too.  I think I've typed and deleted three profanity laced tirades, and now I'm feeling guilty that I let internet people bug me that much.

Still, if you have any links that would help explain the Sudan/Darfur/Chad situation to me...

Maybe I'll go tap the collective wisdom of some other forum!  See if ya like that!

I'll ask my roommate who is from Sudan what he thinks about it tomorrow.

I barely know shit about Darfur either, except millions are displaced from homes, rape is rampant, and hundreds of thousands have been killed.  I also heard that a lot of it had to do with Lake Chad drying up over the years and might actually be a civil war that is based off of dwindling natural resources but I don't know how true that is.

sometimes its best to just close your eyes and pretend the world is okay

repression of one's worst emotions through escapism is our only hope yet!

Experiment:  I've read that it started out as (and still is?) a dispute between farmers and herders over grazing and/or water rights.

The problem is that I haven't followed this from the beginning, like I have with Iraq for example.  Jumping in the middle means trying to sort through a ton of (often conflicting) information and analysis from multiple sources, without any solid grounding to let me know when someone is bullshitting me.

My roommate says that this won't really solve anything.  The situation has been far out of the President's hands for some time and in the hands of several rebel leaders.

True.  The downside to this is that since we keep getting partial stories, the situation will not end.
