I like it better than blogging - its less ego and more natural - especially if you photo-micro blog with geo tracking. ITs even more usable data than ego blogs.
Ego blog is like where someone goes out and pays for the type-pad enterprise premium blog, get a bloody URL of their real name (www.JackMehoff.com) and makes weekly 9 page posts where the blogger re-think and edit everything that is written - the truth is often thrown to the wayside for the writers "Constanza did it cooler in afterthought" moments. Like the bloggers girlfriend may have broken up with him, poured hott coffee on him, cut his penis off and then threw him out of a helicopter.....the blog post written at the end of the week after the situation has soaked in and been thought about will reflect a 40% truth / accurate view of the actual happenings....
Or it could be one of those professional networking blogs - people write with the most severe affronts ever displayed on a screen.
A professional blog is basically a fake resume in disguise....people ARE NEVER themselves really.

Blogging, microblogging, twitter, all stupid shit.
I don't care, and if I do care, I will speak to you in person and ask you about it.

So why post here then?
Its just user submitted text in a different format with less filtering.

Yeah, it's totally the same.

www.JackMehoff.com is taken already?!? Fuuuuuck
-
I really only like it for photo purposes. Although using Twitter to update facebook status is an interesting novelty.
-
I'm not important enough to tweet. If I were the mayor, I'd tweet every 5 minutes.
-
yeah, fuck blogs

I think the popularity of apps like Twitter comes from a slowly-growing acknowledgment that people want to publish different kinds of information / have different levels of communication, and that specialized tools can leverage this want. In other words, sometimes you use Blogger / Wordpress, sometimes using Tumblr or whatever makes more sense, sometimes Twitter, sometimes using a shared-bookmarking site w/annotations, sometimes just posting a comment somewhere, sometimes sending an email, text message, IM, etc; all of these are specialized towards different levels of communication and different use cases, and it's interesting IMO that instead of convergence we're seeing the emergence of discrete apps and then applications which (or APIs which make it easy to) aggregate these divergent modes of communication (ie FriendFeed, etc).

Why are you reading some random person's Twitter posts who you don't know or care about?

For some reason I thought you were in NYC. Today, a little piece of me died. :'(

I was in Manhattan for my birthday party on July 1st, and ill be back up there next month.
I spent some of my childhood years living on Long Island.

My life isn't interesting enough for me to want to document it live in minute detail.

Are you sure about that?

Are you sure about that?
Quite!
If I can't manage to see my daily affairs as interesting enough to write a regular blog - with the ability to summarize at my disposal - then I can't see how things would be helped by adding more mundane details.

Duno, I've always felt that twitter was spawned due to the misconception that people actually give a shit what their friends are doing every minute of every hour of every day. Maybe I'm just not needy enough to get it
-
Daily affairs stuff is boring if you're not a friend of the person in question (and even then, a lot of the time, but at least you have license to tell them to stop boring you)
-
I hate twitter and I hate anyone who uses twitter. I defriended anyone on facebook or LJ who linked their accounts to twitter.
"Ego blog" is a terrible phrase. I didn't know using complete sentences was so self-centered!
If I'm going to waste time reading something, I want it to be a complete thought. I'd rather know what my friends are thinking and feeling than what they're doing.

i don't work

i have so much spare time

You defriended me? I just use it for the photos and location features.

See guys - twitter is pretty much like every thread on evilbore ;)
-
Yeah, it's ironic to hear people complaining about that level of posting.
