Title: I AM ALIVE Trailer
Post by: BobFromPikeCreek on July 15, 2008, 06:56:17 PM
Pretty much all we have is this CG trailer, but it looks badass as fuck.

All trailers are CG these days. At least this game has me excited conceptually.

New IP with CG is lame.  Why should I get hyped about this game at all? no idea of how the gameplay is.  Only thing it tells me is people are thirsty.  I won't get too hyped on the style since it could end up being a loli dating sim in the end.

By modern E3 standards this is about as exciting as stuff gets... Maybe I'm just excited because I like post-apocalyptic fiction and movies, and there hasn't been a decent game centered around the concept.

Ugh, CG.

Still the premise does sound interesting and a new IP is always welcome.  Ubi seem to be on a real roll at the moment.

There have been tons.  Only real interesting thing is that this takes place just days after that event, so it is interesting in that aspect.

Fallout 1
Fallout 2
The upcoming Fallout 3
STALKER

I am having trouble think about more, but there are more. than those two series.

Alright I'll give you the Fallout series. Never played STALKER because my PC is garbage.

So I guess Jade Raymond is now married to some exec at Ubi, and her job is basically to be the boob-piece for all these concept games they have.

I wonder how Jade gets credit for this one, considering it's from Darkworks

I guess no matter what team Jade PR fronts for, she's the brains of the operation

perhaps "brains" should be in quotation marks

and a wink ;)

:lol Is this Jade's new game?

is that to imply she has anything to do with it? If so, then no.

If you mean by her being the fuckable face in we see instead of dirty french canadian programmers, then yes.
Hey I'd rather see her than some pimply-faced douche bag programmer. And if people get the impression that she is at all involved in the actual making of the game, it's their own fault for being too great of a tard to understand the roles of a producer.

Did you not read what Patel wrote?  This isn't her game.  She didn't conceive it.  But she'll come in, get her face and tits on camera, and get her name first in the credit roll.  Just like she did with AC.

I'm well aware of her role in this game.  I'm just not looking forward to whenever she is interviewed the resulting discussion will be about her rather than what she said about the game.

The same thing happened with AC.  I wanted to talk about the game, while most others wanted to talk about Jade.  That is what I'm lamenting.

I think miss. Jade said they'd show a 20minute demo, hope it's not behind close doors.

It's about a guy being [mostly] alone in a torn down, massive city...? (at least that's what I gather from the CG trailer)

I Am Alive?  ???

Kinda of reminds me of Dead Island, with a lot of platforming and climbing.

This is just on Xbox360 and PS3, right?
Title: Re: I AM ALIVE Trailer

Reading The Last of Us information posted on gaf, a lot of it sounds like a higher quality version of I Am Alive.

I Am Alive does look rough but I'm still interested in it.  There was something about how limited medkits mean if you heal yourself, a later event to heal an NPC can't be completed.  Bluffing with an unloaded pistol and things like that could be cool too.  My problem with it, and Last of Us, is mostly that these are linear games.  These concepts would have greater impact in a Fallout or STALKER, or even a game that has branching paths.  Instead the survival gimmick is like a series of bubbles, with each instance remaining independent from the journey as a whole.  Like that climbing video is just prince of persia.  I doubt you could screw it up and climb into a dead end because you picked the wrong path.

Reviews all over the board. Some like it as strict survival style game and others just think its a janky piece of shit. I'd be curious to hear impressions from anyone who actually tries it as I'm kinda curious about it.

looks mainly positive to me, and IGN can suck a dick, I'm gonna check out the trial version and may buy. Need something to play now that I'm done with Alan Wake and this game seems to be a perfect follow up.

just played to the end of the trial version, it gave a pretty good sized taste of the game.

I really like this. Graphics are appropriate. The stamina system is interesting and added tension. The combat is janky, but it's pretty intense stuff. They totally nailed the atmosphere. It really feels post apocalyptic, more so than Fallout 3 and Rage, it's very bleak.

I can see where the negative criticism comes from but as far as I'm concerned this is my kind of game. Love to see a fresh new twist on the 3d action-adventure genre. I will buy this and play it all weekend! Cant wait.

I would recommend it to you Stoney. At least check out the trial version.

Is the whole game black & white?

there is some colour, it's just mostly really washed out. I saw some orange fire in the trial version

Looking forward to checking this out tonight. I really dug Raw Danger and Disaster Report on the PS2 and this seems similar. I wonder how much of this is Darkworks and how much is Ubi Shanghai? Despite the mediocre reviews I had fun with Darkworks' previous games, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare and Cold Fear.

OMG I LOVE THIS GAME

soooooooo tight. Captivating. Scary. Depressing. Exciting. Mysterious. All these fucking adjectives work.

Instead of being just another 3d auto platforming adventure this one does something truly unique and amazing with the whole survival twist. Anyone that liked Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, even Infamous and Enslaved, should check this out. A steal for 1200 points and seems like a decent length too.

XBLA House Party was a home run this year, great to see some good shit on XBLA, the service has kinda been ass lately.

finished it. Total playtime was 5 hours, perfect length. A+ ending, 9/10 game.

Sooooooooo keen for a sequel, but since this took 4 years to come out and was relegated to the download ghetto it wont happen.

I played on Normal to get a feel for the game and it was piss easy, I was drowning in items by the end, as well as giving all my items to survivors to help them out. I'd recommend playing on Survivor difficulty off the bat (no idea why I didn't :/)  I got 17/20 survivors helped without a guide so they are pretty easy to find.

Gonna save everyone and beat the game on Survivor difficulty over the weekend for my 200/200

the demo seemed fun but it was so linear that i couldn't see playing this more than once.  then tension it tries to build in encounters didn't work because it felt like there was only one way to handle each situation
Title: Re: I AM ALIVE Trailer
Post by: The Sceneman on March 09, 2012, 08:29:49 AM
the game does open up a little midway with some hub exploration, but honestly why is linearity such a downside? And yeah the combat is always the same, a couple of tactics change up later on with new weapons and enemies and its a short game, but yes the combat is flawed.

The real strength of the game lies in it's storytelling, and exploration of some awesome scary places. You visit a good variety of locales during the game.

And you get to deal with hardcore serious shit like:

SPOILERS OF STUFF IN THE GAME BUT NOT STORY RELATED SO CLICK IF YOU DARE

I'm about 3 hours in and this game has a great atmosphere. There have been times where I said to myself, 'I don't wanna have to go there'. Combat is flawed and easy but I don't think it has taken anything away from it.
