poor Eel O'Brian
shameless stolen from gaf

- With the nitty gritty out of the way, he started a heavy discussion on a subject known to many comic book fans called Plastic Man. This is what i have been able to recall.
- The Wachowski's are using their original 1996 script which he says would have been the most expensive movie ever made had it been green lit back then.
- With the recent disappointment regarding Speed Racer, the Brothers decided it was time to give the fans what they want (Old school Wachowski production). He says the boys are prepping the movie the way they did it on the first Matrix with the intention of blowing shit up like never before.
- Movie will focus on Action, Character and then special effects. Says the Brothers feel the world can't handle another movie ten years ahead of its time (Speed Racer), however, they will be putting action scenes together that will follow the format of the first matrix with the first half of the movie detailing the plot/character and the final half being non-stop action.
- Here's the big announcement. Joel repeated this twice, Keanu Reeves will be playing the character of Patrick "Eel" O'Brian a.k.a Plastic Man. Joel mentioned the Brothers felt it had been too long since they last collaborated and feel they will only ever now work with him for all their future movies.
- Looking for a Dec 09 release world wide. Tentative to change if effects work is delayed.
-
We'll always have Speed Racer :'(
-
and bound
and the first matrix movie
-
But Bound and The Matrix werent thrown under the bus like SR was.
-
so speed racer was just ahead of its time
-
so speed racer was just ahead of its time
i would definitely call it "forward thinking" if nothing else
-
Speed Racer really did feel like a movie from the future
-
that script is fucking terrible, and i mean truly wretched on every level
they make eel o'brian a fucking eco terrorist, so it's "ironic" when he gets turned into plastic man
if jack cole were alive today he'd shoot himself in the head again over this
those fucking weirdo brothers are going to utterly ruin my favorite character forever
they totally missed the point, and more importantly the fun
i hate it that i am lowering myself to fanboyism, but i am honestly furious this movie is being made, especially with that script
first frank miller fucks up my spirit, then those idiot brothers fuck up my plastic man, and once they finally make that captain marvel movie with the rock the circle will be complete, and every comic character i give a damn about will have been flushed down the hollywood shitter
-
Is this some sort of evil joke meme on the internet?
-
the bright side is that if it tanks, the wachowskis are fuckholed in hollywood

see how far you can make it through this horseshit

unfortunately i really agree with this
except my favorite is Captain Marvel, THEN plastic man, then the spirit.
i mean they've already fucked up Captain Marvel a LOT. You ever try to read him in the 80s? They tried to make him gritty or put him in gritty situations.
It just didn't work.
to me, the best Marvel stories are the ones from the 70s by Denny O'Neil.
-
i'm pretty interchangeable with the captain marvel/plastic man/spirit love, actually - depends on what i've read lately
i have a bunch of the original golden age comics like adventures of captain marvel, whiz, plastic man, and police comics - only have one spirit golden age comic
used to have more, including whiz 7 & 8 and plastic man 3, but i sold the more valuable ones a few years back - collecting golden age comics is a rich man's game
i think characters like plastic man, captain marvel, and the spirit just belong to a certain time and place, and they'll never really do well in modern settings or stories
-
i agree or they would have to be told in the right tone
i enjoyed the heck out of the Monster Society story that Jeff Smith did.
-
i didn't like what he did with sivana - a homeland security goon is boring compared to a mad scientist doing wacky shit like trying to populate the moon with alligator people
plus i don't like it when creators try to cram politics into everything
just felt it was an unnecessary change
