The new things shown in these videos (compared to some previous videos) has renewed my hype.

Looks hot. Small touch, but that inventory screen is pretty neat. Overall, the visual presentation seems really consistent.
-
Yeah, I loved the inventory screen - first time I've seen that.
What they've put together thus far is looking very polished.

Since the GAF search function is back up, I had a look and all three of us were on the bandwagon from the start. Don't doubt PR, we're all Dead Space lovers here. :heartbeat
Unfortunately we seem to be the only three interested in it at the moment. :(
-
I'm interested :heartbeat
The game looks cool, alot of the gameplay I've seen seems very videogamey for a forward thinking game, but it looks fun and scary and the setting is rad. Graphics seem good too.
-
Awesome. :-*
-
like what i've seen, but there's just too many games coming up this year i want to play, and i can't afford them all
i'll probably pick this up later on because i do want to play it
-
What's really fucked up is when this game was first announced I seem to recall alot of people shitting on it, on GAF it was the worst. Me though, I knew from the cover of Game Informer that EA had a winner on their hands.
I wish I could pull up the original Dead Space threads on GAF. I wanna see if anyone is pretending they thought it was going to be good the entire time.
What I don't get is why it got dogged on. OK, so there was a group of idiots claiming that it was Doom 3, RE4 and Bioshock. In space. Now, I disagree, but even if I didn't... Doom 3, RE4 and Bioshock in space, how in the hell does one go about twisting that into a negative? Oh, but that's right, it's generic and overdone. One of hundreds of such horror in space games, certainly.
Oh well, they seem to have changed their mind.
-
People blindly hate EA and helmets ::)
-
I remember people moaning and groaning that it looked like a cheap ripoff of Bioshock or something. I posit that those people were stupid then and if they still are complaining about the game, they're still stupid.
-
AT LEAST ITS BETTER THAN ALONE IN THE DARK
-
it can look like a cheap bioshock ripoff, but for the love of god don't ripoff the endless fetchquests.
-
I hate to be a jerk, but it's just so difficult to spend $60 on a single player, 8-12 hour game nowadays. However good this game may be, it's still just going into the Gamefly Q :-\
-
EA should sit on this until next year
it's going to get swallowed by other games
-
Hud less = AWESOME.
How immersing it makes everything. Just wonderful.
Go back and look at the old Dead Space threads, I was also on the hype train 8)
-
This'll be better than RE5
-
This'll be better than RE5
RE5 at this point seems to be squarely about panic and immediate threats, an action game with gore and horror elements. Dead Space really seems to combine the horror with action to a different end. I'm pretty psyched about both games, but for very different reasons.

I think there is room for it this year. It will compete with Resistance and Gears on the consoles, but the competition will be much greater next year with Killzone and RE5 (and possibly BioShock 2). I think that Dead Space is different enough from Gears and Resistance that it could succeed, kind of like how BioShock did last year amongst Halo and COD4.
-
Oh god, don't remind me of the Bioshock comparisons... ::)
Whether you like the helmet design or not, the multiple visor panels along with the multiple target lasers gives the game an instantly recognisable element which helps people remember it. I think it was clever of the developers early on to give something easy to grasp onto and and help distinguish Dead Space from any other "dark game with monsters".
While I'm a huge RE fan, RE4 and RE5 have moved out of survival horror quite a bit. If the developers of Dead Space can effectively implement the great ideas they've expressed I think this would easily best RE5 as a pure survival horror game.

Bioshock comparisons? I think the more accurate comparison would be System Shock 2 (you, the game on which Bioshock was based) as it was also set on a ship in deep space similar to this. Of course, the gameplay here seems rather different, but it certainly has a System Shock vibe at times (which is a good thing).
-
nah, i never thought of this as a bioshock ripoff, just saying no dumb bioshock fetchquests plz.
-
The Bioshock rip-off accusations were hilarious because they were so incredibly shallow. When asked for an explanation, not a single one of the unwashed bastards could come up with anything more substantial than "well, the helmet, he looks like a big daddy, uh"
-
I think the game looks great. It has a lot of interesting ideas, but I always start to get a little worried when they tell you about these ideas. Like, they have been pimping this whole "oh, a headshot doesn't mean a kill in our game! you gotta dismember the enemy" thing a lot. It does look really great and I probably will buy it because it is Resident Evil 4 in Space.

To be fair, Bioshock comparisons could come from the game having a heavy emphasis on environment and atmosphere. It is sad that few games use those aspects so well instead of having levels to kill enemies in.

Hey did anyone catch the live demo on (i think) G4, where the dude had an awesome t-shirt with the main character on it?
I really want one of those. Fuck this game is going to be awesome.

I like what I've seen, but for whatever reason, I'm not getting super hyped. Same dev team as The Godfather and The Simpsons Game? That's probably why.
This is what System Shock 3 morphed into, right? The OG System Shock 3 rumors said The Godfather team was making it.
-
From an interview my understanding regarding the development team was:
- the team members were all working on shitty games like the Simpsons, and at lunch or whatever they'd get together and discuss games they loved like survival horror and such.
- when they had a chance executive producer Glen Schofield pitched his idea to EA management and also outlined the team of people he'd like working on it, and I think they did a complete and playable level sometime around there. And it got the go-ahead.
So I'm not sure of the exact makeup of the team as it compares to those that worked on other games, but they're all pretty passionate about it. Which doesn't mean a great game will automatically result, but there seems to be a pretty good chance especially based on what's been shown thus far.
Edit: This is the video I was thinking of. (http://youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=9aFXbGLuuwk)

I thought SS3 was still happening.
