Title: Deal of the Week: X-Files seasons at your local Wal-Mart for $20 a pop
Post by: Bloodwake on July 20, 2008, 03:23:06 AM
Picked up the first three seasons, going to get the next three next time I get paid if they still have them, and going to forget the last three existed.

are these the shitty ass sets with the individual cases (like in the Arrested Development DVD sets) that used to sell for $30, or are these the REAL DVD sets with the tons of extras and great packaging that used to sell for like $80.

The last 2 seasons are fine as long as you ignore the mythology stuff, which you should have been doing since, oh, season 3.  Seasons 5-7 are the bad ones.  Season 4 is on the edge of bad, but the stand out eps in that season are great ones.

the episodes dealing with scully's pregnancy were pretty boring, but i loved Herenvolk, Tunguska/Terma, and Gesthesmane.

I thought season 5 mythology wasn't bad either. The End is one of my favorite episodes.

I could probably be pressed into giving mythology pre-movie a pass, but it really starts feeling like a house of cards in season 4.  That's when it became clear that they were making it up as they went along.

woops. my bad. i meant scully's cancer, not pregnancy.

i actually finally felt they had a cohesive thing going pre-movie: the two alien sides. the syndicate teaming up with one side to colonize earth.

once the syndicate all got killed (season 6?), that's when the mythology became distinguished mentally-challenged.

Where does the movie fit into the season order? I find it kind of strange that they haven't really rereleased the movie yet. Or at least I haven't seen it anywhere.
