Post by: cool breeze on July 21, 2008, 11:53:09 AM: GTA4 failed to properly follow up a previous game in the series. It lacked the prospect of having fun when playing. They fucked over the gameplay so they could have lame ass social elements and other dumbshit like that. 90% of the missions consisted of scripted chase sequences with the poor vehicle controls.

MGS4 was fantastic. As a fan of previous MGS games, it delivered big time and improved the core gameplay in a huge way. If you really hate MGS4, I would guess you weren't a fan of previous MGS games either. For GTA I was a big fan of previous games, but GTA4 was huge let down.

Saints Row 2 is now getting more hype because it contains what GTA4 threw away: the idea of having fun and freedom in an open city.

I agree that GTA4 was like taking one step forward and two steps back and for all the completely distinguished mentally-challenged game design choices they made there were moments that were really fucking brilliant, like four leaf clover. GTA4 didn't deserve all the hype it got but it certainly didn't deserve the massive backlash either.

You have to be a fan to like MGS4 though. It's like 3 hours of gameplay mixed with 15 hours worth of insipid cinemas.

Has anyone gotten these yet? I asked last week and no one at the GS even know what I was talking about. They had the R2 and Fable 2 preorder bonuses so they aren't completely distinguished mentally-challenged.

Are you certain that's not just the means of spawning them after redeeming a DLC code? The Mercs 2 costumes were full-on DLC codes, much like the ones on XBL 12+1 and Marketplace Points cards.

Goddamn, this game has better cut scenes than GTAIV, MGS4, whatever you name. They are paced and shot like action movies, and they mix some of that badass cheezeness of the 80s with modern time camera work and shit. Seriously just fucking balla, i couldn't believe it.
