Title: Tiny MAG screen
Post by: duckman2000 on July 22, 2008, 03:29:12 PM: I love the concept, but it was disappointing that the demo was just that, an admittedly very stylish target demonstration of a general look and feel. But hey, now there's a screen! Sort of:

You're right Sony is really taking this FPS thing to another level. Where's the adventurous Sony of old? I guess all their quirky stuff is being shifted to PSN.

The entire point is that people were claiming (I don't know if it was on this forum or not) that it would like like a PS2, or even PS1, game due to the 256 (or something) player count in the game. It looks good judging from that small pic, but considering its a small picture and not a video, I can't judge too much.

I find it hard to believe that any FPS fan, or at least a fan of larger scale combat games, would honestly want anything other than for them to pull this off. The general cynicism here tends to take a turn for the absolutely idiotic once the GAFminded fuckpit gets pounding, which is a shame.

Well, that's the problem. Still, nothing wrong in hoping that they will. Guerrilla has certainly shown improvement under the first party wing, so who knows, maybe Zipper will follow suit.

I think you can at least tell that the modeling isn't a blocky mess. That is all I got from it. Textures and other effects are unknown.

And shrink down a picture of Dead Rising for the Wii. Do it.

you can tell it looks better than xbox1 games. nobody is saying it will be the best looking game ever. when you consider the scale of the game, the game certainly doesn't look bad, at least based on the screen (which is all we have right now).

there's a certain level of detail shown in the character models. don't act stupid like you can't see it.

Then why in the hell are you even referencing my comments? I know nothing about this game other than that there was a very stylish target demonstration, and now there is a tiny screen which I've never judged one way or the other because it's simply too tiny. I hope it will look and play awesome, but I have no idea if it will. There's not enough to go by to even make a preliminary call on the quality.

Again, your distorted view of reality must be a fucked up one to live with.

Me, I'm mostly pissed about being accused of praising this complete unknown beyond saying that the demonstration was stylish.

I do think that the actual CG video was stylish, but not this picture. It wasn't stylish in really the style of the game, it was more of how the video itself was directed. Like, it was cool how they paced it so you have the first assault going into the base with snipers in the hills and rocket troops and all that jazz. Just as the video is ending you see a whole new wave of players parachuting in to get to battle. That stuff was cool.

The actual picture is nothing special outside of knowing it isn't a blocky Wii-like mess despite having that many players. I am still rooting for this game based on the concept and the hope they can pull it off.

Well, I'm not really buying the reasoning that people are this negative towards the game due to a lack of interest in what the game aims to bring to the table.

Precisely. I was actually surprised at the quality, and assumed that some other studio had put it together for them. Which may be what happened, but if that's the experience they are going for, then I hope they pull it off.

Weren't the SOCOM games a good deal more action orientated than your common Clancy game though? I have very limited experience with SOCOM, but as a Ghost Recon player, I seem to remember feeling that they were too, er, action-y.

I think that actually looks quite good. It is on PC and PS3, so I will probably pick it up on PC if I do get it. It is all about spies vs mercenaries doing missions in their own ways and can be played alone or as an MMO.
