Let's talk about an actual game.
Anyone getting this bitch? What platform? I think I'm actually swinging PS3 this time so I can return the gamesharing favor with a friend of mine.
-
:o
Wanna play with me?
:-*
:hyper
-
i'll probably get it.
-
omfg :hyper
It's just 2 player right? Is there voice chat on PS3?
-
the footage looks pretty bleh, and commando 3 was pretty bleh, but i'll probably get it anyway. it's worth noting that the ps3 version of commando 3 ran faster at a higher resolution (according to quaz51 at b3d), so the ps3 version might be the way to go
-
good to hear. i'll definitely try the demo, at least
-
Gazza says its like Commando 3, in that its too "quiet" and gets boring
I will be buying Puzzle Quest and Go Go Break Steady

Me too
-
I might get it. I really just want Bionic Commando Rearmed.
-
I'll check out the demo for sure. I owe it to all that time in college playing Strikers 1945, at the very least.
-
I've got too much jrpg faggotry keeping me busy.
-
Capcom XBLA games never get released in Japan
:piss Capcom :piss2
-
Judging from the Japanese XBL marketplace, nothing gets released in Japan.

GO GO BREAK STEADY review
http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/892/892883p1.html
cant wait :hyper
-
Break Steady is fuck awesome, I was cumming over it at the Indie Booth at GDC, it as probably the only good part of the whole show
-

you may know this already, but the strikers games are an unrelated series from a different developer -- those games are thematically very similar to capcom's 19xx series, but they play very differently
-
PS3 version, looks fun.
-
Why is it getting shit reviews? It's low on gamerankings but they're all magazines, anyone have them on hand?
-
how many player co-op is it? we shoudl hit some up tonight :-*
-
i could have sworn it was 3... but maybe not
Commando 3 is 3-player. I think 1942 is just 2-player.
-
1942, PQ and break steady for me!
-
1942, PQ and break steady for me!
BREAK STEADY
WE HAVE TO DO CO OP ENDURANCE and beatbox
-
:hyper
let's do it!
-
i am.
-
Hell yes. PS3 version.
-
1942 seems fine but it looks a little washed out. Anyone else noticing this?
-
Man I'd totally buy this game if I had either of those systems.

Different yes but awesome! Strikers 1945 is a great SHMUP! :punch
-
Next-gen bloom mud effect or some such? Yeah, I just noticed that too. You'd think this shit would be crisp.
-
The transition effects are terrible between menus. I think they are trying to scare you off so you don't notice the lack of options.
-
It looks like they turned on the sepia filter. I know they're going for the old film look but I'd rather just have more vibrant color.

How else can I be dcharlie's secondary ass muffin? No, it is my duty to stay here.
-
hate the stupid charge shot. what a fail, i cant even change it so i dont have to tap a all the time.
also some of the weapons are shit.

I already have RSI from Titan Quest, I don't need any more of it.
Strangely enough I didn't mind the widescreen and speed of movement
-
so is it worth getting?
edit: supposedly it's only 5 missions and lasts like 30 minutes total... wtf. not worth $10.

I can beat DoDonPachi and Espgaluda in less time than that, and I paid 80 bucks for both of them. ;)
except this game doesn't look nearly as fun. some of capcom's downloadable games are such low quality. this one doesn't seem much better.
-
I got it.
Anyone want to play some co-op send me an invite: DR3AMR.
I played it on easy last night and couldn't get past the 4th level. I love it though.
-
I played on the normal difficulty and died on the fourth level boss. I'm not SHMUP fanatic, so it was entertaining enough.
-
it's ok...ish. should've bought the 360 version for eb score comp. :'(
1.3 mil on default difficulty, anyway -- wasn't really playing for score, don't think i will
-
I don't understand why they'd make the game short as fuck as if it was made for single player arcade score runs, but then made the game feel like half a game when you're not in co op. One or the other Capcom.
-
this is actually pretty damned fun if you play on wing king, which is still too easy, but at least makes you pay attention. it's a shame that the difficulty settings only affect your stock of lives. ~1.6 mil, btw -- seems like nobody is playing this
-
lmfao, difficulty is only stock? No wonder I breezed through the demo on the second hardest difficulty.
I still wanna get this but I dunno..
-
go for it. it's long enough for a game of this kind, and it plays a good deal better than most of the crap on these download services. i didn't think backbone had it in them
-
It seems to be bland as hell when you're alone though. How much co op have you been doing?
I wish it had trophies. The only way I'd do co op is if I got it on PS3 and played with this one guy, but I don't have faith in him playing it a lot with me. So I'd rather just swing 360 for achievements, but then I'm guaranteed to have no one to play with.
-
none -- i can't stand playing shmups in co-op
-
And you still think it's a credible shmup? The single player weapon bonuses are good enough? Maybe I'll redownload the demo.
-
only its lax difficulty keeps it from being a really credible shmup -- these guys have obviously studied the excellent 19xx, and some of the later levels are a lot better than the one in the demo. seems like there's some scoring depth too
-
OK, one last question - is there voice chat for co-op in the PS3 version? It's make or break.
Edit - it does
OK, demo d/led. I do dig the gameplay but the level is too damn short with not enough interesting shit going on. And the last part where you fly away from the plane only gets more boring the better you do. I think I'll just wait for someone to youtube the entire game so I can see that the other stages aren't lame.
-
fortunately there's no more of that escape business -- that part sucks
-
Do you grind through it to maximize score or just suicide to boost your time score?
Do the enemy patterns get more interesting, and the levels longer? Maybe I just prefer the R-Type style of game and this isn't for me. Loved OG 1942 though.
-
i haven't really dug into the scoring system, but suiciding is never a good idea -- a lot of your score is based on those end of level medal bonuses, and you lose all your medals when you die. the levels are a good length, and there are some nice layouts of enemies and turrets and things
-
I thought the escape portion of the first level goes on infinitely unless you hit an enemy? I was going for a minute or two in the demo and killed myself to end it.
-
nah, it ends after a certain amount of time
-
I am pleased with it - but just how short is it?
-
30 minutes apparently.
I just watched one of the dullest youtube reviews ever, but he showed almost all of 4 of the levels and it does look like it gets pretty sweet. I will probably buy it soon.
-
ok - that puts it into perspective.
My second game of it I made it to the 4th target...(stage)
-
Well, I got it.
The game seems way less vibrant on PS3. I don't like it, but I guess my eyes will grow accustomed to it.
-
its not that vibrant on 360 either
-
Doesn't change what I said.
-
i know :(
-
Its only 4 levels? Huh...haven't been able to beat the last boss yet.
-
five levels. the colors are pretty different between the two versions, yeah -- but the ps3 version should be more saturated. or at least it is on my tv, and my settings are pretty accurate
-
So the PS3 version looks even more washed out than the 360 one? Must be a sea of sepia. There's a PS3 demo, right? I should check it out.
-
no ps3 demo, afaik
-
See, that I don't get. They already have one made for XBLA so why not make it available for PSN too? Fail.
-
The structure of XBL demos differs from the typical PSN demo.
The contrast is better on the enemy planes, but it's kinda striking to see the ocean being a sort of dull green instead of a decently bright blue. And I feel like everything runs together in stage 2, I wonder if that is improved on 360.
-
Demo hits PSN in 45 minutes, apparently.
