i can't hear for shit goddammit subtitles are a must.

the game i'm playing that lacks such a feature is none other than the outstanding AitD.

What I hate even more is when the subs are out of sync, see BioShock pre patch. Annoyed the hell out of me because those audio diaries weren't always that easy to understand

I don't remember what game it was (it might have actually been GTA4) where the voices were so low that you literally couldn't play without the subtitles on.

Yes.  UBISOFT is by far the worst at not including subtitles. 

Sometimes I have to check wiki to know what's going on in R6V and SC because I can't hear the dialogue.

Yeah, it's GTA4. I had to turn on the subs.

the sound in AitD is all fucked up. i have my surround sound turned way up and compared to other games and i still can't hear shit.

also this game is worse than haze. haze was at least playable, this game is not. i'm in the garage after blowing up the car with a lighter and burned down the pillar to get to the next area. as i was walking thru the opening i got stuck, so i jumped...and fucking died.

dunno if i can carry on through this one.

Halo 1 comes to mind.  I play in "theatre mode" and I could barely make out the voices, though I hate subtitles.

I think the choice to sacrifice subtitles for cutscene skipping was a good one.
