where is the wiimote?
-
I'll go the 360 pad because it gets the most right. A 360 controller with the d-pad off the Wiimote would be heavenly (Nintendo's face buttons tend to be the best around too).
-
You forgot one:

The 360 controller is the best and most preferred controller. I also very much liked the dreamcast controller, although I never played any precision shooters so I can't say how the analog stick would hold up.
-
360 for anything but fighters. My 2nd favorite is the Dual Shock 2. Dual Shock 3's triggers suck ass though. I don't think you should lump it in with the DS1&2 for that reason.
-
Can I edit the poll when there are lot of votes in it? I'd add the SEGA Saturn one, just for you tiesto (are you the same tiesto from GAF?).
I already voted on SNES (since I didn't see Saturn on there), oops. And yeah I'm the same from GAF of course.

I always had problems with the DS2's shoulder buttons. I went through 3-4 controllers last gen as the shoulder buttons would always get stuck in the cheap plastic casing of the controller. The original DS was better than the DS2 for this reason, imo.

I voted Saturn. (2nd rev obviously)
-
1. Saturn (JP)
2. 360
-
360 controller for 3d games, saturn pad for 2d
-
Second/Japanese version of the Saturn controller is the best for 2D games.
Xbox S-controller is the best for 3D games.
-
Xbox 360 controller is nearly perfect.
Dual Shock 3 isn't bad either. Much better than the shitaxis, but it still isn't in the same league as what MS offers.
Put me down for the 360 pad.
-
...why did three people vote gamecube wtf
-
The gamecube has an excellent controller.
-
Wiimote. Two controllers are better than one.
The 360 controller is pretty awesome though, except for the shoulder buttons and of course the d-pad. The Sixaxis is alright, but I'll never understand why in the hell they went with the convex trigger design.
-
The Saturn controller is the best controller ever created. Well, for 2d games, I guess. But I even liked it for 3d games with sort of digital movement. Tomb Raider on that thing omg!
-
360 by a landslide. I don't know how many times I've been playing my PS3 and wishing I could just use my 360 controller with it. Shit, I look at those incredible looking Killzone videos and get excited until I remember that I gotta play it with my Dualshock 3. :/
For the love of god, someone release a 3rd party controller for the PS3 that mimicks the 360 one.
-
I can't decide. GC for 3D games, Saturn for 2D.
-
360 controller, since I never use the D-Pad.
-
dualshock (any) is the best all around controller. gamecube has nice ergonimics but fails in terms of button placement and that stupid octagonal guard for the analog sticks. 360 pad fails in terms of d-pad and how the face buttons feel (though i like the shoulder buttons).

aren't there tutorials for the mod that puts DS3 innards inside the 360 controller shell?

I played SSF2:T on my 3DO with that. It was a great controller, but it's still no Saturn pad.
-

be cool like me and build your own stick.

FUCK YES.
Except I don't have a PS3, but the thought of having to use a Playstation controller if I buy one is a real turn-off.

You know whats up.
-
360, though I really liked the SNES controller.
-
I voted for the Sega Saturn small pad, but in truth my favorite 'standard' controller is the genny 6 button pad of essentially the same design (minus shoulder buttons). Both are fantastic though.
The best game controller ever is the negCON. Hands down.
-
Dreamcast pad.
Great analog stick, great direction pad (massive fail here for 360 controller). Only issue with this controller was lack of buttons, only 2 shoulder triggers. You would think only one analog stick would make first person shooters cumbersome to play but Q3A and UT controlled great on it.
Plus the VMU was greatness.

Totally forgot about the S. :omg
Would be my favourite pad after the 360 even though the dpad also sucked.
-
Dreamcast analog stick and d-pad are both shit. There is actually nothing that good about that controller. I'm serious here, lets just break it down:
-wire coming out of the bottom.
-shitty buttons
-shitty d-pad
-shitty analog stick
-shitty triggers
-shitty form and grips in the back
-VMU ran out of battery and function quickly.
-It needed a rumble pack even after the Dual Shock came out and already had the rumble built in.
Totally forgot about the S. :omg

D-pad was bad, but it was at least functional and helped you get by. The 360 D-pad has problems even with menus or typing. Even the original PSP D-pad was better.
Ok, none are as bad as the master system, but still bad.
-
While I still enjoy the simple elegance of the NES controller, I'd probably have to go with the Xbox360 controller. MS learned some very good lessons from The Duke and managed to make a controller that took the best parts of Nintendo's and Sony's controllers and put them into a design that works well and fits easily in a pair of hands. D-pad is terrible, though.

I was going to mention that the S dpad is better than the 360, but I wasn't sure if I was just imagining things.
-
Voted Gamecube not because it's the most versatile controller, but because it's the most well thought out if you create games specifically for it. Otherwise I'd go for the 360 controller, or some sort of 360 + Saturn hybrid.

MUPEPE.
