Title: Temping sux balllz
Post by: The Sceneman on July 23, 2008, 08:14:28 PM
have any of you guys subjected yourself to this shit?

Get paid peanuts, get patronised by overpaid underskilled monkeys (who you are actually smarter than), and do the worst work ever? (:piss data entry :piss2) Working at KFC was better than this.

Gotta find a real job asap  :'(

I've always been paid more as a temp than getting hired on for the same job. But I only did temp work on the technical side, not general labor.

I briefly temped, but it was factory work, not office. The absolute kicker was being on an assembly line with my foreman literally unable to speak a word of english, trying to mime for me how to put together kitchen cabinet parts.

I lasted a day.

temp work can serve as an avenue to full-time employment. That should be your real goal during this phase of your work-life.

Can't you do temping in like, an actual field of work?

haha, I want to, but since Im young and have no formal tertiary qualification it can be hard. I definitely have the skills to go far, but I just moved back to Wellington (government city) where basically everyone wants you to have a degree or something. Like where I was working before, the 'Research Analysts' were pretty unintelligent (they were nice people, but did patronise me a bit), I could have easily done the job they were doing( I figured out the computer applications while they were showing me what to do, I ended up showing them what to do::) )

But future looks good! Been job hunting all day, seems to be a lot of interesting stuff out there and Im setting the bar a bit higher.

i loved temping because it let me do a variety of jobs in a variety of different work environments when i was younger.

many jobs in the DC area have started to do "temp to hire" after a year probationary period, which i consider sketchy as hell.

It's funny because I have talked with all of the local temp agencies around where I live and I have yet to get a single interview from any of them over the course of the last 18 months. All the interviews that I've had have been set up by myself. There are plots all around me
