I like it so far. Pretty fucking scary.

how frustrating are the controls

eh, could be better but they're not too bad.
-
I thought the demo was pretty crap. How does it compare to Silent Hill 2 and 3? Those two were my favorite in the series.

I've never gotten around to playing Silent Hill.
-
Gotta upgrade my PS3 hard drive first.
Is there a guide on how to do this online?

You should give them a try. 2 and 3 are must plays for Horror fans.
3 is more action packed while 2 is a more psychological adventure. 1 is great as well but it's probably too ugly by today's standards.

Are they pretty cheap now?

Probably. I think both are available as greatest hits if you want them new.

I enjoyed the original Siren quite a bit (it was a little bit too trial-and-error though). For the remake didn't they boot the characters from the original and put in some Americans or something?
Is it much like the original otherwise?
-
The original has some of the most inexplicable puzzle solving known to man to get evrything.
Need this item? Too bad, because that fridge you forgot to plug in 17 chapters ago should have been turned on.
I haven't played the original either, but I'm pretty sure they changed all that kinda stuff for the remake.
-
Demo was shit, too dark and just awkward
Releasing as PSN only was dumb as well. I'm not paying for this on my borrowed PS3.
-
It isn't dumb to release it only on PSN when the game is only being released in episodes.
The Blu-Ray release will come as a compilation once all the episodes are out.
Anyway, I think you have to be really patient with the demo depending on your mood and how easily entertained you are. I don't think accessibility was the primary design goal.
Try to avoid combat at all costs.
I basically played the demo twice and never got anywhere near the end, and decided I wouldn't play the demo again until I had nothing else to play or replay.
I'm not saving it for last because it's the best, I'm saving it for last because I have better things to play.
-
All episodes are already available according to the GAF thread
-
Yeah, you can buy it all now for $40, but if you buy them one by one, it is $15 each.
When I upgrade my PS3 hard drive I will get the $40 bundle and save a whole $5! Which is actually a lot, because I bought PAIN with that much.
-
i boughts it
downloading
-
it's out already? :hyper
i loved the first one, despite its huge flaws, and this remake is one of the reasons i bought a ps3. i'd go download it now but i don't have the internet at my place right now (or $40). someone post impressions with comparisons asap plz.
-
The entire package is probably the biggest download ever put on a console store....9gb or so I think. I have 7/12 parts done and installed. Amma give it a go now OMG
-
9 gigs...fuck. That would take like 2 straight days.
Is it one large file? I guess if they are broken up I can just do background downloading as I play.

12 separate files.
I started downloading at like 5:40 EST and 10/12 just finished.
-
I started downloading at 10 pm and I'm done. You guys am mega slow.
I am installing them all now. I played through the first 3. wow this is so awesome.

The Asian (ie. Hong Kong) Blu-ray release is completely in English. Given the choice between a retail version and a downloadable version, I'll always go for the retail version.
-
:bow CERO :bow2
Dead Rising = Z
Siren = D
I dunno about that. There's a lot of blood, but definitely nothing like decapitation or anything. What did NG2 get again?

accept the future you Wii-like owners

NG2 = Z.

Japanese people can't take severed limbs!
-
You've already played through the first 3 episodes? Of 15? :( How long did each one take? Also, is there any date/price for a physical release?
-
i might get it over the weekend - just got home...
-
I just gameshared this with somebody and got 9 games in return.
:elephant
-
I just bought this and Pixel Junk Monsters. Looking forward to getting into it after it finishes downloading. :D
-
i liked pixel junk monsters when i tried it on my friend's ps3, it's like that Fort Condor game in FF7.
-
SOMEBODY GIVE ME SOME IMPRESSIONS BEFORE I GO TO BED
I'M DYIN HERE
-
do you get a trophy for completing it?
-
is it giving you seizures?
-
So are the controls as awful as people are reporting? I am a sucker for horror--even bad horror--but bad controls will kill it for me.
-
Yeah, the controls are as awful as people are reporting, even without the exaggeration.
For one, they could've just made the R2 button a toggle button to switch on or off between the first and third person views. Did they do that? No. You have to hold the R2 button the whole time you want to remain in first person view. Hold the R2 button harder to zoom.
That is terrible design of controls. L2 doesn't even get used for anything, if I recall correctly... and they want to put two functions into one button? Terrible.
@ demi: I can't fathom why this didn't get a Blu-Ray release. Maybe they didn't think it was the worth the cost to print the discs? Who knows.
-
You just click in the right analog stick to remain in first person. Although this only worked in the second part of the demo. Controls aren't pitch perfect, but I wouldn't say they are bad.
-

Not true. For some reason, the first chapter and the beginning of the second requires you to play in 3rd person (no clue why), but after a certain point, you can play the rest of the game in first person.
-
It is probably because the first chapter never gives you a reason to go first person. After that you get ranged weapons and I'm guessing other stuff. I'm judging by the demo.
I'm upgrading to a 250 gig hard drive next week and then I will buy the full game. I enjoyed the demo quite a bit. It is nice to see a good old survival horror game in this age of action packed horror games like RE5, Alone in the Dark, Condemned, and now Silent Hill Homecoming.
-
the graphics were pretty shit. maybe when it's remade again they can do better than 512p.
-
It's visually very schizophrenic. I have no problem with the controls. The story is very confusing so far. I'm only through 8 episodes though....I played all night basically. Scary as hell.
After the first few games epic bomba'd, I'm just happy to have this one. PSN is the one area where I'm not totally disappointed in Sony this gen...they've done some nice things with it and are doing things I wouldn't expect from them. Just wish there was way more content.
-
episode 3 = :O
-
There is a special this week where this game is $30 on PSN

Maybe they are combating the $33 sale price at P-A for the disc version, lol.
I still need to play this but disc >>>>>>> 9 gigs on your HDD.
-
No thanks. I think I'd rather spend my money on Silent Hill:Homecoming at Steam.

I checked it and it's the Japanese version, does it still have English in it? I'd rather have the blu-ray also despite having about 200+ gigs of memory free on my PS3.

Voice is all English, text is all Japanese.
Isn't the Euro version disc based and has extra DLC or something? I might just wait and get that.
-
Dear Evilbore,
The end of the game is SHIT. The plot is still confusing, and the ending is absolutely horrible.
-
Is it true the Euro version has a physical copy?
