Title: I just got a sudden urge to play Two Worlds. Does that make me a bad person?
Post by: Great Rumbler on July 24, 2008, 10:47:56 PM
So, yeah, basically I've been wanting to play an real-time nonlinear RPG lately and I've been trying to figure out which one to get back into. There's Gothic 3, but I realized all over again just how truly horrible it is. For one thing, the graphics engine is an abomination; even at the highest setting everything looks terrible and it chugs below 20 FPS on a constant basis. The combat is clunky and slow and enemies will ALWAYS run from at the precise speed necessary to stay outside the range of your sword swings. Plus the voice acting is dull, dull, DULL.

Then there's Oblivion, but I've played that so much that I'm sick of it, even with lots of mods.

So it's back to the old mainstay: Two Worlds. A game that has so many game-breaking flaws that you can probably teach a college course about game design using it as an example of what not to do. Dying is not only not punished but actually rewards you sometimes. The dialog and voice acting are laughable. The art style is equal parts derivative and atrocious. And the quests are all lame. Yet, somehow, it manages to be fun.

Fine, whatever, bring on the expansion pack, I certainly don't have enough good games laying around that I haven't even finished once yet.  :'(

Morrowind?

Nah, I've played that nearly as much as Oblivion [as in well over a hundred hours] and I'm not a big fan of all the fog.

I got as far as the outside of the cave or whatever it was at the very beginning of Two Worlds before I had to stop.  I just couldn't take anymore of it.

I beat it twice. I am the greatest gamer of all time.

Demi: An inspiration to us all.  :'(

Stay far away from the Gothic series then. It's worse by a very wide margin.

I played the demo.

I remember running around in a circle with a small cuddly black bear which was about twice as strong as me.

You could get rid of the fog with the Morrowind Graphics Extender.  Want to try a classic?  How about Ultima VII?

As long as you have a little patience, you can probably beat just about any enemy in the game at level 1. It would take a while though. Just ran back from the nearest spawn point any time you die and always use the Q button [dodge] whenever you're about to be attacked, the latter works almost every single time.

I might even have that installed, it's been a while since I booted it up. No, I've played more than enough Morrowind for one lifetime.

I'm not really looking to go too far back in time with this, mainly just stuff from the past few years.

No wonder this game was more popular in Europe than it was in the US:  :lol

Hopefully the sequel will have more titillating boxart. My decision to purchase may depend upon it.

I dunno, I'd play more Oblivion.  There's at least a couple of hundred hours in it, especially with Shivering Isles.

get a decent PC rpg. It doesn't even have to be a new one, there's years of stuff to pick from that will scratch that itch.

That being said, Two Worlds post-patch on the PC is not terrible. It's not good, but it isn't very bad. Just sorta bad.

I've probably put nearly 250 hours into Oblivion+Shivering Isles. I'm tired of playing at this point.

I've got nearly every PC RPG that's worth owning, that's why it's so sad that I want to go back to Two Worlds.
