Alien bugs and loot! Let's see how scary this one turned out to be, I really don't have any expectations it'll be good, but hell we get a new hack and slash on the PC from US developers only once a year these days. :-\
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_spacesiege_downloads.html (1 GB)
Kicking off the download and heading to bed.

I'm expecting Alien Syndrome PC but I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow. thanks for the heads up
-
Definitely will check this out tonight
-
might as well let it dl overnight too
thanks for the heads up
-
any specs before i get my hopes up?
-
Sounds good.
-
From Sinistar/Schafer on GAF
Wow that was certainly... interesting.
A dungeon crawler with no:
- Loot
- Experience
- Levels
- Classes
:rofl WHY. What a stupid game.
-
I played it. It's as meh-tastic as you would expect.
Good:
Setting/Graphics
Storyline (seems interesting or am I just a sucker for sci-fi?)
Physics are nice. Lots of space junk to kick and shoot around.
Bad:
Clunky camera (tried different settings and mouse sensitivities to fix it)
No tutorial, sparse hint boxes, no voiceovers telling you what is what
No exp, no leveling
Tech trees and upgrades look simplistic
Horrible UI
Short, short demo with no variations in enemies or missions. No reason to replay it.
Not really a big surprise, but I was hoping that maybe this would be a sleeper game. They promised Dungeon Seige in space .. they delivered Silverfall in space.
-
PC gaming, haha
-
That's...unfortunate
so i guess Alien Syndrome and Shadowgrounds: Survivor are still the best Space Loot games
-
no loot? what the hell?
-
Too Human > Space Siege
-
I think silverfall is probably better, its even got an expansion!

WTF? ???
-
no loot or XP or levels or classes?
I...would like to see this for myself
-
this game sounds like an abomination

this game sounds like an abomination
or a radical paradigm shift!
-
i have downloaded this and am about to give it a shot
-
and it's over
it's got some interesting ideas but i think that it could have been done a bit better
may be worth about $20 or so depending on the final product
if it had been wasd + mouse that would have been a lot better
-
No loot or XP? I would have bought this on day 1 even if it were just reskinned Dungeon Siege.
-
i honestly think they're trying to move beyond that
it's more like Shadowgrounds than DS.
It's interesting and possibly worth playing, but the issue is the branding carries a legacy of genre which enforces a set predisposition and level of expectation to the gameplay which I don't think the game itself may be trying to reach
-
and now for my dissertation on the postmodernism inherent in atari 2600 games
:wank

I wanted Dungeon Siege, not Shadowgrounds :(
This would be like if McDonalds brought back the McRib but instead of heavily processed rib, you got a loaf of feces that doesn't drop loot or level up.
-
No loot is wtf. Who plays these games for anything but loot?

It's ok, you can still get Too Human, PC gaming is dead
-
Wow, I actually liked that quite a bit. Will buy. There's upgrading and shit, and it looks pretty nice. Reviewers will tear this apart. As long as it manages to have different environments that aren't just lol spaceship, I can see myself enjoying this quite a bit. Anyone want to do coop when it comes out?
-
Sure, hit me up on XBL
-
yeah, once i accepted i wasn't gonna get depth but instead just a fun, polished run-and-gun, i enjoyed it. it looks pretty and the space ship level was well-designed. should be a good co-op game. better than too human confirmed
-
I enjoyed it as well. Yes, there's no XP but the upgrade credits basically serve the same function.
The presentation is well done and I had no problems with the controls or camera, which are very important for a game like this.

i would have liked more freedom of movement so i could move and attack a bit more naturally
i also had to bump my mouse sensitivity up.

Just looking around for some specs and came across an interview with CT.
He also made the point that modern game design has moved away from creating ways of punishing players to developing a model that rewards them as regularly as possible. This means eradicating the old "game over" screens, removing manual save/load systems, and allowing regeneration points that allow players to carry on where they were even when they've died. All of the above will apply to Space Siege.
I'm not familiar with exactly what he's referring to but it sounds alot like Prey where it was impossible to die and I hated it.
-
developing a model that rewards them as regularly as possible.
So where's the loot then? Or the level ups?

You "level up" by upgrading your weapons and adding bionic gear.
-
still no loot
