Title: The best movie of the 99s
Post by: MyNameIsMethodis on July 29, 2008, 09:47:38 AM
(http://www.criticsrant.com/Images/criticsrant_com/Retro/Go/Go_Poster.jpg)

I watched it again last night for the fifth time in two months.

It was one of '99s best reviewed movie and was thrown around for oscar noms like Ledgers shitty performance in TDK. Yet it somehow died after the year 1999, even though it had plot twists and connectivity that would make Quentin Tarantino look like a poor imitator of Quentin Tarantino (Guy Ritchie). Plus it had amazing music and great cinematography.

If you guys have never seen it, do yourself a favor and see it.

Plus it stars Timothy Olyphant and Katie Holmes when they were young and nubile and hot.

You can watch the trailer here (http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/176043/Go/trailers)

RT Page (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1087053-go/)

Plus it was one of the first movies to show homosexuality in high school / college culture.

Discuss the best movie out of 99 that isn't the Matrix.

Best Acting for Mr. Olyphant
Best Picture

Were some of the ones thrown around.

And maybe the plot twists weren't that good, but the way the story intertwined was - I thought - better than what Tarantino could do.

I don't remember which one at the time.

What I do remember was when that one old hag won that best supporting actress or maybe even best actress for like two minutes of screen time.

Go was fun but no way is it 'best movie' of anything.

Unless it's the best movie where Jay Mohr and Scott Wolf fuck each other in the ass.

Just knowing that Pulp Fiction came out the same decade obviously makes Go a red-headed step child.
Title: Re: The best movie of the 90's
Post by: MyNameIsMethodis on July 29, 2008, 10:03:59 AM
Not really, PF was a totally different genre, they just shared tactics. Plus the music and accuracy of the rave culture and excellent cinematography is what paved GO to be a great 90's movie.

I dont want to live in a world where Go can be considered better than Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Se7en, Glengarry Glen Ross, 12 Monkeys, etc.
Title: Re: The best movie of the 90's
Post by: DJ_Tet on July 29, 2008, 10:29:20 AM
A different genre, sure, but it's style is what made Pulp Fiction great, and that's exactly what Go amped from it.

Anyway, the topic is best movie of the 90's and clearly Go isn't it.

I do like to see a Go appreciation topic, though, I quite enjoyed it.

Oh my bad guys, I meant to say best movie of the 99s in the title like I did in the thread. :(

I may be dumb but im not dumb enough to say Go is better than Goodfellas and Casino.

Since the OP has backpedalled into just one year rather than a decade, movies from 1999 that are better than Go:

- Magnolia
- Eyes Wide Shut
- Fight Club
- The Insider
- American Pie
- The Matrix
- Office Space
- The Straight Story
- The Sixth Sense
- American Beauty
- Austin Powers 2
- Bowfinger
- Bringing Out The Dead
- Galaxy Quest
- Toy Story 2
- Thomas Crown Affair

- The Phantom Menace (lolz)
