what EA games are on PS3 and X360? just curious
-
Well if these are worldwide numbers, EA did release UEFA EURO 2008 this past quarter and god knows how those dirty euros love their soccer, so that may explain some of it.
-
Yea they're worldwide. PS3 revenue is up like 900% and 360's is like 75% of its value last year.
-
does anyone seriously doubt that 360 is stalled? i assumed that all the SECOND PLACE FUCK YEAH stuff on evilbore was posted in jest
-
I honestly expected the 360 to be sub $200 by this time in its lifespan. I can't believe MS keeps insisting on this i-Pod approach for their hardware. It just doesn't work. If they want people to get excited about the 360 again they need a full-on substantial pricecut. No more $50 re-shuffle.

Revenue By Platform (in millions):
Revenue? :yawn
How about actual profit per platform? This is just boosted up by high PS3 software prices.

High PS3 software prices? Aren't they the same as the 360s?
-
Well PS3 doesn't have any budget/classic lines yet.
-
Yeah well how many EA games are there in the 360's platinum line, or whatever the hell they're calling it?
-
What is the exchange rate nowadays? 18 US space bucks to 1 euro?
-
Man, thank god I don't live over in Europe anymore. I'd be one broke motherfucker.

In Europe? FIFA 07 and NFS Carbon officially went classic middle of 2007. Fight Night and NFS Most Wanted were added around that time too.
Pricing tends to drop a lot faster outside the US, so even if it's not classic it's likely to be discounted after a while.
-
360 software stalling in Europe isn't all that surprising. PSP doing better than DS is wacko though considering nobody pays for PSP games.

actually, no
Ive noticed that a lot of multiplat games run for 10-20 dollars more on the PS3

Is that MSRP or the wholesale price?
-
the MSRP (or RRP or whatever)

I never liked EA, anyway.

any specific EA examples you can cite where the games launch during the same time period but at different prices?
regardless, i don't think that 40% difference can be attributed to slightly higher software costs alone.
-
yep, Army of Two
-
EA just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know of US culture (I'm an expert) but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like Japan where you can become sucessful by raping a woman with a tentacle. If you screw someone over in America, you bring shame to yourself and Jesus, and the only way to get rid of that shame is through NASCAR.
What this means to the xbox 360 owners in America after hearing this news is that they will not want to purchase anymore games from EA, nor will they purchase PS3 ports from the filthy money hat wearing euros. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want but EA just alienated and entire market with this report.
EA, publicly appolgize for making PS3 games or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Conversion rate is the easy answer
-
Conversion rate is the easy answer
i was responding to the guy saying it was because of higher software prices.
conversion rate is the likely culpret. though that doesn't change the fact that EA made more money off PS3 game sales.
-
And it also probably means that PS3 is doing even better in Europe than top 10s would indicate.

Totilo on the hot seat now

luckily i'm on the 'unite against the Wii' bandwagon now so this doesn't affect my platform advocacy in the slightest.
*hugs generic HD console*

So there has been a flip flop?
-
PS3 owners don't have much to choose from and the majority of them obviously don't care for Sony's overrated 1st party games. Therefore, it's no surprise that they'd spend more on sports games from the biggest publisher.
-
it's a little depressing that ps3 units are moving, but hey, such are the wages of rrod
and as cormac sez: in the face of the wii's rising tides, we must cling to such waggle-free shoals as we may
-
seems you guys can sleep tonight after all. scroll down and you get more accurate figures, putting ps3 a bit behind 360 (but still with a nice 240% growth)

I dunno, Riccitiello talking about betting on wii is interesting. After Mirror's Edge is out, it will be interesting to see if DICE does a port of battlefield heroes or something.

Why would they? That isn't the audience for Battlefield games. Or indeed, games.
-
Article: "Boom Blox sells 500k worldwide"
Riccitello: "Man, let's totally bet on Wii."

Riccitiello talking about betting on wii is interesting.
i think in hindsight almost all companies would have rearranged their resources around the Wii/Ps3/X360/PSP/DS userbase/sales situation.
Wii doing so well caught people out, but that's still not to say that if EA had focused on the Wii that they would have profitted. It's not a given that the type of games that EA make would appeal to the Wii userbase. Infact, i don't recall any of the EA games they bothered releasing doing any sort of big sales numbers.
When this shift does happen the rude awakening is going to be hilarious.
-
yeah, i thought with the exception of a select few games wii owners generally just ignore third-party games altogether and call it the wii sports box
-
When this shift does happen the rude awakening is going to be hilarious.
but for who though? if there isn't a good fit then all that will happen is that you'll get a load of bad selling EA games.
I know that a lot of companies are going to throw more resources at WiiDS, but companies like EA aren't going to abandon the current revenue streams. There will be change in support levels for Wii, but there is absolutely no guarantee that it's going to instantly convert into hard bling.
Its true, that it will be bad for the industry but I'm hoping the "lets get the casuals" mantra will be bunk by the time this happens.
Hopefully it will be as you stated and EA will stick with their usual output and just make shovelware that would appeal to the Wii base.

i wonder how medal of honor heroes 2 sold on wii
ea actually put forth some effort in the control scheme for that one, and from the reviews it sounded like it had the best fps controls on the wii (even if it had nothing else going for it)

If you have to wonder, the answer is probably 'not very well'.
You have a game that you think can be the next COD4 right now; what platform would YOU put it on? 360/PS3/PC or Wii?
-
well, that's what i'm saying
if they show an effort in one of their bestselling franchises to cater to the wii crowd and it still sells shit, then what's the point, wii owners obviously don't give a fuck
keep giving the wii folk the "Wee Playgroundz" and give me MoH: Airborne 2 with co-op on 360 or PS3
-
Well, it's not much more expensive for them to put it on PSP if they do a Wii version. Same with PS2. For some games, the last-gen versions will be worth it, for others they won't. Overall I daresay the math works in their favor. But the version they expect to actually make serious money, and invest accordingly? Surely that's going to be the 720p-plus version at this point.
I'm not saying this is their best strategy overall to make money, but as DC says, at this point, with hard evidence of low sales of the likes of Boogie in hand, they have to be realistic about their ability to create brand new franchises that would work on Wii/DS. They can't suddenly wave a magic waggle wand and say 'Thou shalt create million-selling non-games' and see all their teams just crank out tripe that sells. Just as they can't tell a team to go create the next WoW and get 10 million subscribers. That's always going to be a wild punt at a moving target.
So their best option probably is to continue to supply 'hardcore' games on the HD platforms.

I'm always surprised to see PSP software sales. I'm the only person I know who doesn't have a hacked PSP, and that's only because I don't really care for portable gaming. And judging by all the "homebrew" threads across the web, it seems people's moral qualms have given way to the "everyone else is doing it so why not?" rationalization.

I know it bombed in its first month, at least.
I think it even had 32 player online matches. Definitely a real effort. I wonder if it's $10 yet.

nah. i use mine strictly for ROMS, psone games and changing the CPU clockspeed.
i haven't torrented any games for the system and in fact I just bought dracula chronicles x and killzone: liberation.
some of us still have some morals :D
