Post by: Tieno on July 30, 2008, 05:13:00 AM: I like it, but the weapon feels underpowered and messes with the pace of the game. In Geometry Wars RE it it was easier to cut through tuns of enemies, making you feel like a god...maybe I need to get used to it a little more.
I like the geom concept, it makes it 'harder' to run in circles.

Post by: Tieno on July 30, 2008, 01:31:42 PM: I'm getting more and more used to the weapon and I really love it. It's even more addictive than the first one, always one more go x 6 modes. More variety. All the modes are fantastic, but waves is brutal.

I do love the bigger spread of the GW1 weapon where you could cut through streams of geometry, this is a bit harder now.

I've found that if I can keep a 6X6 (in yellow arrow enemies units) clean near the middle of a wall and then just a few spaces up and then shoot in straight lines either vertical or horizontal it works well, but at around 2 mill the green enemies start spawning to much.

I only have 14m in Deadline

I came close to beating my score in King but the mode is too frustrating... the worms surround your circle and you cant shoot them at all. Then those speedy small blue things appear and its like, oh forget it - and you're dead. The circles spawn at the worst possible places... usually ACROSS THE DAMN MAP

It's hard to compare it to Geo Wars 1 since that game came up with the concept and this one just expands on it. But still, the different modes was a pretty genius idea. It's like six different Geometry Wars games in one. Won't get stale for a while.

There's like ten times more replay value thanks to the different modes, all of which are awesome so far. The gfx and effects are much improved as well. that said, i actually like the game overall. only unlocked the first 3 modes. didn't get to play much last night but so far so good. don't like the gun at all. i really wish it could be powered up. glad they added evolved mode in there again, best mode ever! deadline seems pretty cool. haven't figured out a good strategy yet and i keep maxing out my bonus around x1100. argh.

king is definitely the most frustrating piece of crap i've encountered so far. don't know if i can be as hardcore with this game because of all the various modes. makes it hard to focus. i may just pick one and roll with it for the sake of leaderboards. might just be evolved cause i loved gw1 so much.

overall i'd say this is totally worthy of a purchase. some letdowns for true fans of part 1, but a nice change of pace as well.

Achievements or unlockables at accumulated point milestones, or something. The central problem with the gameplay is that once you achieve a high score in a given mode (one where you got incredibly lucky and managed to totally eclipse your previous scores) then there's really no incentive to play that mode again. No matter how high of a score you get, unless you manage to get super lucky again and top that highest score, your time was wasted. It becomes an exercise in frustration. There are a number of things they could have done to help reduce the frustration factor, but unfortunately most of them also would have changed some of the strongest gameplay elements of the game. The overall design has weaknesses and strengths. Once I get the last couple of (non-smile) achievements, it's pretty likely I won't play this again.

God I wish I could see the whole fucking board at once :( And I wish that the wave enemies didn't look so much like your bullets. And I wish that the visual effects weren't so over the top that when you're doing really well that it becomes very hard to see the enemies.

Really hard to complain when a game this good only costs 10 bucks though.

All this aside, the friend leaderboard implementation is a huuuuuuuge step in the right direction :) My only real goal is to keep Patel from the top spot on my lists :P

I like this game. I still like SSHD more, as a double-stick shooter.

Damn it's amazing how quickly my rank can get knocked back. I was number 104 in Deadline but now I'm 512. My King and Waves score is just saddening. I think I need to start focusing my attention on those.

Post by: Enl on August 18, 2008, 03:32:05 PM: I first focus on getting 100X multiplier before the first 30 secs. Then I try to bring out the orange worms by that time. When the worms come I start focusing on them while at the same time I herd the "sheep" (letting the enemies follow you without shooting them).

When I get a nice collection of enemies following me I bring them down to the bottom and annihilate them. At about 1 min if you have a 300x multiplier you're doing pretty decent (I've gotten up to 450x by the min mark). Once you past 1 min go crazy. Also use your bombs early and wisely (and always save at least one for the end).
