Terry O'Quinn is in it? JOHN LOCKE IS IN IT?

Is this that Zatoichi(sp) movie, or was there another one. I vaguely recall seeing a trailer once.

Nope. This is an 80s b-movie classic.

Doesn't surprise me. He's been a character actor a long time now.
Hell, Millenium was pretty much The Character Actor Show, what with him and Henriksen leading the cast.

I haven't seen this movie since I was a little kid.
Goddamn. 80's R-rated action movies are so fucking cool.

yup

Too bad studios have been blinded by the PG-13 crowd and all the money they can make off of them.
-
Jesus, how did you even remember this movie? This looks SUB-DREDD
-
it was a staple of the cheesy 80's cinema rotation on KCPQ13 in the afternoon!
IT'S A WESTERN WA THING

I tried to look for the other film, and found this on wikipedia:
The 1989 movie Blind Fury starring Rutger Hauer was inspired by "Zatoichi Challenged", the 17th film in the series. In this movie Hauer plays a blind Vietnam War veteran trained to use a sword cane in battle, thus giving his remake character a more American background.
But I was absolutely positive when I saw the trailer it was called `Zatoichi-The Blind Swordsman`. It stuck with me because I thought it was so ridiculous having Rutger Hauer playing someone named Zatoichi. Maybe they changed the name, I don`t know. Kinda interested in the originals now, though.

Beat Takeshi directed a Zatoichi movie just a few years ago. I am not familiar with the OG series, but I enjoyed his movie.

I love this too. One of the few DVDs I was prepared to pay Japan prices for. Very much a homage, but with lots of distinctive Takeshi touches, such as his blond hair, the distinguished mentally-challenged fellow with the spear etc.

Zatoichi is like uh... I dunno, James Bond or something. There's like 30 Zatoichi movies.
The recent one is really cool.
I have never seen Blind Fury, but I know of it. I will check it out, looks right up my alley.
