Looks like another PS3 exclusive will fail.
Maybe I'll pick it up when its discounted. Should be easy to find, just look for the large pile next to MGS4.
-
how is this thread worthy
-
THAT ABOUT WRAPS IT UP FOR SONY
/me FIST BUMPS
HOOYEAH
-
Er, so? It sounds like a game creation tool that comes with a complete game. That's more than most "real" games deliver. "Gamers" and their fucked up sense of entitlement. ::)
-
All this time, I thought LBP would be a downloadable game... :'(
-
What the hell was the point of this thread exactly?
-
EDF 2017 is inferior to Global Defence Force on PS2. It was because they sold it at $20 that there won't be a follow up in the vein of the second game now. Poor people keep ruining good series. You did it to NFL 2K and now you did it to the EDF games.

seems to be worth 60 bucks too. great thread.
-
By all accounts so far, the game seems to be well worth the $60 price. I think people were expecting it cheaper because it is really mainstream and I even thought that it might be a downloadable title.
-
Who didn't expect this?
-
EDF 2017 is 20 bucks.
20 FUCKING BUCKS!
And EDF will be 900x the game LBP will ever be.
hahah wha?
Id gladly pay $60 for LBP
-

same, I thought it was a $20 or $30 downloadable game, with the rest made up as DLC
$60 USD? so much for LBP
I will still buy it of course because I am not a filthy poor

It wouldn't have made a difference even if it was cheaper.

Nintendo is a shameful company that has no passion for the integrity of their properties anymore.
They are just in it for the money now, even if it means pissing all over the legacy of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games by selling those franchises short of their rightful pedestal.
Nintendo are just sore losers, that's why they made the Wii. It's a big fuck you to the core gamer.

the thread was created because the OP doesn't think LBP is worth the same amount of money as the typical retail game. it doesn't get much more distinguished mentally-challenged than that.
-
not really, we just don't have any quality sfags
:(
-
When is this out in Japan then?
No fucking way is it going to sell over here though - i'd be a mug to get it day one. It'll be Haze-priced in a week or two. I might do so anyway because it looks just that awesome.
-
LBP isn't going to bomb you idiots.
-
That's fightin' talk in these here parts son.
if you're talking to me, you may want to read the first line of my post again. Then tell me why this is going to sell in Japan, bucking the trend of about 1 million consecutive western games.

If it gets the same marketing treatment other Sony games get, then hell yes it will bomb.
-

Quality over quantity my friend. :)
LBP will be THE game that catapults the PS3. MARK MY WORDS! I'll even do a ban bet, :punch
Challenge me!
-
Ban bets? fuck off

I can see MotorStorm 2 being quite big in Europe, and Killzone 2 being massive worldwide. Massive, for a PS3 game. I don't expect it to outsell Gears of War (1 or 2), but it will sell well. Infamous will be the best game on the system, but that one will probably tank. Resistance 2 could probably do good, but they are going to have do something about the marketing for the game. None of the above will make for any massive explosions in sales, but I could see them putting up a good argument for a steady increase in sales.
LBP? I don't think it will sell much. It'd be nice if it could take off and become a content creation beast, but come on. It won't.
-
No, really, after the next game the PS3 will take off
no this time, seriously , trust me... it'lll take off
no, honest, this time for reals yo - it'll fly !
well, the plan was to wait until this far in, the machine is going to shine and it'll really take off
etc etc...
3 monthly "PS3 about to take off" reboot. Depressing times for sfags.
It's not about that D. My wallet already suffers for my rotation of MLBTS, GRID, BP, MGS4, HV bowling, HS poker, etc... I have 15 games on disc and didn't buy warhawk.
My point is that LBP is something for everyone that likes to game. It's the game nfags should love but will shun for it being a Sony game.
It may be a breakthrough is all I'm saying.
These level creation walk through videos make it look very easy to create amazing things. And if it is that easy, I expect great things.
-
A breakthrough experience, I can buy into that. But I think in that scenario, someone else will ultimately reap the benefits.
-
Killzone 2 being massive worldwide
given KZ1 sold around 3000 copies here, i think we can wipe Japan off the slate. Hell even God of War 1 + 2 bombed here, and i thought that would at least appeal to some people.
Fair enough, I guess I'm using worldwide in the Xbox 360 sense :P
The God of War affair is interesting though, as it's constantly referenced by Japanese game developers, yet as you say, bombed on the market. Maybe these developers are just namedropping it to appease western readers though.
-
It has a full single player game to it. Compare it to Mega Man Powered Up on the PSP, you have the main Mega Man platforming game, but then you have the ability to create levels and all that. If you haven't played Powered up...shame on you.
-
i'll bet LBP breaks 1 million worldwide over the span of a year after it's release--i could move the date to "by the end of the calendar year" depending on how well it's being marketed, reviewed, and how active the buzz is around release. yeah, it could very well bomb in japan... but i guess if any game has a chance of changing their trends, it could be this one.
-
Here is a quote for dcharlie:
For those wonder 'WHERE'S MY READY-MADE GAME?!?', Edge says this was the real surprise for them on their visit. From what they played, they say it should be a 'devestatingly effective' 2D platformer out of the box, even if not very revolutionary. They say the mix of precision jumping and simple physics is very reminscint of 16-bit gaming. They had relatively low expectations for this part of the game, but they walked away with the impression that they had been playing with the 'purest' 2D design since Super Mario World.
-
why is $60 bad for this??
jesus, i'm the xfag grand vizier in these parts and i can't imagine complaining about its pricing
-
People should expect to see a potentially great 2D platformer and nothing more.
LBP will not:
-become the youtube for video game systems
-turn the tide of the console warz in Sony's favor
-sell more than 500k world wide if even that much (though I'm sure Sony will 'ship' a million or whatever)
If folks would set their expectations accordingly, without any pie in the sky hopes and dreams, there would be a lot less conflict when discussing this game.
-
I'm not that savvy when it comes to sales, so I am neutral with that. I agree that it won't change anything in the 'console war'. However, I do think that it will actually exceed whatever this 'youtube for games' thing is supposed to be.
-
-become the youtube for video game systems. depends how far reaching that statement is for you. of course it won't cross "systems" or even games for that matter. it's one game, but within that game, i think it can definitely achieve a "youtube" environment.
-turn the tide of the console warz in Sony's favor. i don't even see many arguing this.
-sell more than 500k world wide if even that much. what i do see is people saying it'll be a big game, and i think it will definitely be a big game. if trends continue (crazy amounts of industry buzz from all channels->great reviews and lots of buzz after release), i think 500k is a really low benchmark. i think 1 million is definitely within it's reach (worldwide over time).
-

How would you believe in the latter statement without believing the former?

Maybe we're not on the same page with the 'youtube' remark. When the youtube thing is brought up, people are normally referring to youtube's level of popularity. If you mean having people within whatever modest community that may arise from it sharing/uploading levels and whatnot, yeah I don't see why not.I mean, people do it for Boom Blox, so....
i don't even see many arguing this.
It's hard to differentiate sometimes, especially with what some on GAF say, but if many are thinking that it'll be the next GTA or Pokemon, well then one would assume that would provide enough push to sell a bajillion PS3s.
hat i do see is people saying it'll be a big game, and i think it will definitely be a big game. if trends continue (crazy amounts of industry buzz from all channels->great reviews and lots of buzz after release), i think 500k is a really low benchmark. i think 1 million is definitely within it's reach (worldwide over time).
I always see this excuse, and I still can't believe people seem to use that as surefire proof that it will translate to success. There are plenty of games that get lots of buzz from the media and great reviews and whatnot, and plenty of them fail (see: Okami/Godhand/anything by clover actually/Loco Roco/anything published by Sony this gen, actually). I mean, you're dealing with a cutesy looking game, in a genre that hasn't been particularly popular in over a decade, on a system that's selling on par with the Gamecube (well, aside from Yurop apparently). I mean, such factors wouldn't exactly fill one with confidence. It's pretty much the PS3's Loco Roco at this point (though it will definitely be more fun, I'm sure).
I mean, if this thing is a success, then more power to Sony. I'd love to see 2D platformers come back, but I don't see LBP leading the way.
-
How would you believe in the latter statement without believing the former?
About weather or not it would sell? or what?
I believe that LBP is going to be the first game that really does the whole big social network gaming thing, but even more so in that as you create or play the content being shared, you can also be playing with friends. Garry's Mod does the whole deal with messing around with physics and the world well, but it doesn't have a good way to share it outside of the people in that game.
-
i hate using terms like "has legs," but i think lbp might be a game that fits
i think it will sell respectably, and continue to sell respectably for a long while as word of mouth spreads (if it is indeed a good game above and beyond the create-a-level side)
it just strikes me as the kind of game (again, hinging on it being a good game) that a lot of people will keep around in their collections instead of trading in to gamestop a week later
so maybe not a monster hit, but a solid seller over time
-
lbp will not move more consoles than mgs4 did.
-
I gotta stop posting here when I'm drinking. lol ban bets..... smh
