Doesn't this game series suck? That's what duckroll says.

The Onechanbara series has HORRIBLE controls. It's a total novelty thing, so don't expect to actually enjoy the gameplay on any level.

Oh man, that review is hilarious. They actually tried to compared this to Devil May Cry and Dynasty Warriors.
I own the PS2 games and have played the 360 version. They're all really bad, but I think you know that and just like giving me shit. :lol
-
is it online multiplayer? I thought it was just local.
This was announced when EDF was. Hope it gets a PAL release :hyper

No nudity? ::)

It's on the same level as Dead or Alive, but throw in a very underage girl and you're set.

This game series is generally very, very boring. It's like a DW-style beat-em-up in small, enclosed areas, only with zero challenge. I think the Wii version is the best one; the 360 version is below average. The PS2 version released before it is better IMO.
Oh, if you didn't know this, Oneechanbara had a live action MOVIE released earlier this year. One of the worst films I have ever seen; makes SF The Movie look like The Godfather. I laughed my ass off so hard at how bad it was.
-
worse then the machine girl?

i fail to see how a game about scantily clad cowgirls chopping up zombies can be bad
it contains all the major awesome groups

Yeah, you'd think so, but the controls are so incredibly broken. It's not even playable in a "man this game sucks, hahahaha" kind of way.
Victory against some of the bosses is reliant on sheer luck as the controls are so terrible you can't do shit.

haters just want to hate, let them enjoy their Sengoku Basara or Lair or Gundamn Wing
We can have white chicks with swords and zombies

this game looks awesome!

Those nancies are over-reacting. The game isnt all that great, but it's a fun timewaster. I have no idea why they are talking about broken controls.

I'll buy if it's $30. :-*

Yeah, the controls are fine, but it's so...budget. Don't expect Dead Rising from this; it is the same PS2 game that goes years back. There is nothing different.
Here you go, guys: Oneechanbara is made by the GREAT developer Tamsoft. Remember them? No? They made TOSHINDEN.
-
What's wrong with Toshinden? It's better than Soul Calibur

so? Sounds just like fucking Musou games. Some of us enjoy B grade 3d action you know
-
I was as excited to play these as any of you when I first heard about them, but when I played them, reality set in. :-\
These games are worse than any Musou I've played. I've played the PS2 Oneechanbaras, and the levels are long, boring, and suuuper repetitive with no real features except for the zombies that take a bunch of hits to kill. Occasionally you'll have to find a key to open a door, and eventually you'll have to fight a cheap boss that's too hard to kill because you didn't grind enough. The controls feel pretty nice most of the time, but you'll get so sick of the levels that you'll just want to play the game in Survival mode because it's more fun.
The games do what they do - girls slashing zombies - pretty decently, but they have nothing to come back for. Go ahead and get it if it's $30 or whatever, but just know that the novelty will wear off pretty quickly.
Lyte - do the Wii60 versions repeat levels like the PS2 games?

They are pretty much the same as what you described above. :lol
Frankly I feel sorry for anyone who gets hyped up for this game. Demi, look forward to this being as awesome as Alone In The Dark! HAVE FUN! ;)

Nnnnnno. EDF is way better. It's actually fun.

How can weeaboos hate a weeaboo game? I think you're just yanking our chain, and are infuriated that one of your precious weeaboo series is coming to mighty conglomerate America.

The game looks like No More Heroes, except with a Naked Cowboy Woman.

Do you guys not think there is a reason all of us here that have played this game series are telling you guys not to get it? Oneechanbara is not like those games. :lol
-
You automatically assumed that by comparing it to No More Heroes, I was complimenting it.
-
Doesnt lyte edge constantly spam this board with his mish mash button games? Sorry, I will take naked bimbos with swords over your shilling. Guaranteed sleeper hit.
-
Wow, just watching those gameplay videos has me hyped. This looks like one of the most original games to come out in the past year.

Well, I mean NMH has some different kinds of attacks, grabs, and such. Plus some interesting bosses and a story. Oneechanbara doesn't really have any of this. I love Musou games like those from Koei and Capcom, but this game is just sub-par...average at best, but I kinda hesitate saying that. Like I said, I'd recommend the Wii version or even the PS2 version (Simple Series 101, the last PS2 version) over the 360 version. There is some nasty screen tearing and slightly sluggish control in the 360 version.
We need Originalz in this thread to provide fanboy commentary defending it.
-
I've been playing games for a pretty long time now, and I'm preeeeetty sure I have not played a game starring bikini clad bimbos with samurai swords slicing up zombies. That's pretty original. Certainly more original than your ancient textbook history snoozefest slice em ups.
-

Well, damn. NMH was great outside of the shitty free roaming stuff. I guess not having that is a plus for this game.

Like it or hate it, NMH feels like a real "game." Not a budget PS2 title-gone-full-price. It also has some challenge to it and not AI enemies that just stand there doing absolutely nothing. Let me put it to you this way: In the Wii version (the newest one) for example, the hardest enemy is the "red smoke zombie." Not because it will kill you, but because you have to do a specific combo to destroy it. That's about the hardest part of the game. The Koei games have generally brain-dead foot soldiers, but there are plenty of times when you might get overwhelmed with enemies or face a tough boss fight. This just doesn't happen in Oneechanbara. So if you like endlessly grinding and playing through boring, lifeless level settings killing enemies that just stand there, you might like Oneechanbara. That pretty much sums it up. If the game had better AI, it wouldn't be too bad for what it is.
http://kotaku.com/374435/full-oneechanbara-movie-trailer
Trailer for the laughably-bad movie. I'd say the three main characters (Aya, Saki, and Reiko) probably say about 10 lines of dialogue combined during the entire movie. :lol

Because tits n' ass and zombies has never been done before.
If you are actually being serious, it's clear you have never played Basara 2.
-
Everyone says that game is shit. Why would I bother with that? Sorry, I only deal with the AAA stuff. And the occasional A.
-
Basara 2 is good from what I played of my friends import of it.
I really need to find another way to play my PS2 imports.

Basara 2 and Heroes are the best in the genre, in my opinion. It's cool having an Arc System Works-developed 2D fighter to go alongside them, too. I really like Koei's Musou Orochi games as well. The second game is AWESOME, albeit more of the same, and I can't wait for the 360 version.

Looks like the 360 version added more blood effects and light trails. I'm getting reminded of that awful camera.
This is the kind of game waps like me WANT to like, but it just turns out to have very few redeeming qualities and to not be much fun. You guys will find out when you play it. Tamsoft just doesn't make good games.
-

Better skip this series, then. Oneechanbara is a C at best.

I bought Onechanbara 2 Special Edition for 1500 yen thinking "Ok, here's a laughably bad game for next to nothing, but it must have some redeeming quality." The problem is that you'll probably be paying $60 for the 360 version, when it's the exact same really bad game with a new coat of paint.
I have a strange thing for Simple 2000 Series games, and compared to most of them, the Onechanbara series is AAA. But, compared to the average good game, it's crap.
Although, I was impressed that you have to wipe the blood off your sword or it becomes impossible to cut through zombies.
-
Yeah, they'd better make both the 360 and the Wii versions budget-priced in the US. And not $40 budget-priced, either.
The PS2 Oneechanbaras feel like the core of a really good action game paired with content that took a week to cook up, total. They spent all the effort on making the character look cool and feel pretty fun to play, but the rest of the game just doesn't have anything to appeal. So you spend all your time doing cool-looking, blood-splattering moves on zombies that just stand there (and take hits) like tree trunks, ad infinitum.
I have a thing for the Simple 1500/2000 games, too, and I played a bunch of them. But I think I enjoyed Zombie vs. Ambulance and definitely the Pikmin clones (Genshijin and Nekomura) more than Oneechanbara.
-

Who gives a shit about DLC dumbass.

You're clearly biased. I can't trust you I am afraid.

Heh, Lyte and I made a roadtrip to watch the live-action movie. It was also played in the NYC Asian Film Festival, proving it to be one of the greatest Asian films ever made. The movie sucked ass but if you turned off your brain and watched it as a comedy, it's gold. I can't wait for the DVD to come out.
Anyway, yeah, I'm a huge fan of the Oneechanbara series. Sure, it's mindless gaming, but it's fun mindless gaming. The combo trees are deep enough, and getting a perfect combo is damn hard. You run around, slashing shit, and leveling up your stats. Level design is nothing special, but it has been improving since the old PS2 games. I find the games fun enough, as long as you aren't expecting the second coming of action games or something. Just run through slashing shit while watching girls. The first few levels are pretty brainless, but as you progress it does get more challenging, and the higher difficulty levels are pretty damn tough. It'll probably be a budget release in the States like EDF was anyway.
Although, the press release is kind of misleading. Free mode is just going through the story levels again but you aren't restricted by which girl to use and there aren't any storyline events. Quest "mode" is an outright lie. It's just a list of achievements to do during the main game, if you complete them you unlock costume pieces for dress-up mode.
-
The game looks like No More Heroes, except with a Naked Cowboy Woman.
Your disappointment will be the stuff of legends.
The best way to enjoy Oneechanbara series is to google for booth babes from Tokyo Game Show. I bought a copy, used, WITH A COUPON, for 900 yen, and still felt ripped off.
-
How much is 900 yen in fake american money?
~$9.00
edit: Currently, it's $8.22.
