Title: Sony HDR-SR11 - any good?
Post by: duckman2000 on August 04, 2008, 07:44:43 PM
Looking for a new camcorder, and this one seems like a pretty good buy, for its class. Does anyone here have any first hand experience with it, down/upsides?

I've used it. Your better off getting a good MiniDV camera.

It looked like ass in low light. Lots of grain.

I've had it up to here with tape, that's what appeals to me about this one.  :-\

It seems like camcorders are in a state of flux at the moment.  Hard drives seem to be on the way out since flash memory is slowly coming within the realms of affordability for this purpose (I personally think this is a good thing - hard drives came off as a bit of a stop-gap solution between tapes and flash).

Until this format indecision sorts out I'd try to wait.  Or if I had to I'd probably go for something with flash capability if you're not going with MiniDV.

Well, it's a 60GB HDD though, with the SR12 having 120GB. And as far as I know, this model offers a hybrid solution, meaning you can use a Duo if you want.

I may just end up buying something in the "prosumer" range. Not as convenient to pick up and use, but I think it will be difficult to deal with the auto-focus shit. Why in the hell can't they offer some form of manual focus on these things?
