A boss at SCE noted that Sony plans to boost its gaming production business in India in order to take advantage of the cost benefits offered by the region.

Amid buzz of Microsoft cutting prices of its Xbox 360 consoles on Monday, arch rival Sony said it has another trick up its sleeve to seek cost advantages.

Atindriya Bose, country manager, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), said the company, which is a subsidiary of Sony Corp, would boost its gaming production business in India to leverage on the cost benefits that the country offers.

Post by: Fragamemnon on August 05, 2008, 01:11:19 AM: The first real games out of India will be terrible, for sure. However, so were a lot of the games out of the Russia and Eastern Europe, and now they are almost on par with US in a lot of ways.

It's an industry and location worth investing in. There's a whole lot of people not served well by modern gaming in India, and there's a whole lot of really smart, young, talented , and creative engineers there that would probably love to make games instead of writing EJB and servlet/JSP code all day for banks and insurance firms.
