Very interesting. Muy interesante, if you will. The not-as-easily-moneyhatted tech journos seem rather excited and dreamful of the possibilities of a Larrabee revolution.
basically, the gist of it seems that Larrabee will allow for software-based rendering....
It's not quite emulating a GPU as it is directly implementing functionality on a data-parallel CPU that would normally be done on dedicated hardware. And developers will not be limited to just DirectX and OpenGL: this hardware can take pure software renderers and run them as if the hardware was designed specifically for that code.
Intel's forthcoming Larrabee product, which the company revealed in an extended briefing on Friday, is the second major disruptive change to Intel's core processor business since the Pentium Pro. I'll justify this claim at a later date with a more extended treatment of Larrabee, but for today I'll cover the highlights from the Friday briefing.
Be afraid, PC gamers. Be very afraid....
