I haven't put a serious amount of time into any RTS since StarCraft. With Dawn of War 2, Red Alert 3, and StarCraft 2 all coming out though, I'd like to get back in the genre. What's the most n00b-friendly RTS that's currently out, so that I can ease back into it? I want to play DoW, is that a good one, or is there a better one to get my feat wet with first?

DoW is great and the singleplayer of any RTS is usually slow-paced enough where you wouldn't have a problem getting into the groove.

DoW
Company of Heroes

Have you tried COH? It's a bit less aggresive and not as fast as Dawn of War while still being unmistakably Relic, and has a bigger community with better multiplayer matching. It's also easier to get into, as after you pick a side to learn you only have to think about 2 matchups (say, American vs. Wehr and AMerican vs. PE). It's an amazing game.

Rise of Legends is pretty fun if you can find a copy. It's very much like Starcraft with an Age of Mythology and steampunk vibe to it.

I went ahead and bought Dawn of War: Platinum. Downloading it now.

DoW

YES! Especially CoH cause my cousin and I have gotten back into that so we can all play together. :-*

You'll probably learn Space Marines to start out with if you play the campaign, but I highly suggest playing around with Orks and especially the Tau-the Tau global econ abilities can give players without as much territory a big econ boost.
Personally, I play Eldar and Ork. Mostly Eldar though, as I really, really dig their early and midgame units.

We should really start playing CoH together. It'd get me gaming again.

Age of Empires 3 is great too if you want something noob friendly.

Yep, AOE3 never leaves my hard drive-it's a permanent fixture. I love the game's home city system and the wonderfully detailed economic model mixed with the micro-friendly unit spamming-it's really old school without feeling ancient (like Blizzard's RTS games) because of the modern ui and quality graphics.

Alright, you convinced me. I bought AoE3 Gold. :bow2 Also, while I was waiting for DoW to download, which took forever, I went ahead and reinstalled C&C 3 and started a GDI campaign. I'm going all out on this thing. It's weekend it's going to be all strategy gaming, all the time just like our founding fathers intended when they wrote the Constitution. :american

I bought too many games at once, and I've barely played any of them. Titan Quest, Sins of a Solar Empire, C&C 3 (and all the ones before it in that massive pack, since I lost all my CDs), Painkiller, CoH...I never can choose what to play!

loul whatever
