Title: Holy shit The Wasp Factory, more like The Boner Factory
Post by: TVC15 on August 11, 2008, 10:25:31 PM
:bow Gruesome animal cruelty :bow2
:bow child on child homicide :bow2
:bow antisocial personality disorder :bow2

Why didn't I read this sooner?  Probably because I thought all of Iain Banks' shit was scifi.

I've seen Iain Banks mentioned a lot here lately and I have had Complicity recommended a few times now too so I'll probably pick up either that or The Wasp Factory soon.  Just not sure which.

Wasp Factory is excelllllllent

really, his SF and non-SF are equally good, it just depends on what you're in the mood for. Complicity was awesome but Wasp Factory is a very good starting point

I finished all his SF and was like, huh ... well I guess I'll read his non-SF? (I'd already read three of his non-SF books - just decided to turn his non-SF into a go-to "list") and really it's just as enjoyable

if you like it read Use of Weapons next !!

also, The Bridge is awesome, if you like Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

Wasp Factory was the first Banks book I read. Good way to start off :)

Same here. Actually it's the only one I've read, but I'd like to get into to some of his Sci-Fi stuff too.

I wanted to get The Bridge first.  is it by chance out of print?  I couldn't find copies of it anywhere.

I like when he talked about how killing people was just a phase he went through.  :lol

So far the most erotic moment for me has been the war against the rabbits.  I'm only like 50 pages in.  There's just something about cutting open rabbit anuses and inserting pipe bombs that makes me so, you know, horny.

Wasp Factory causing boners is a lovely source of irony.

IIRC anything with by Iain M. Banks is SF, and without the "M." is reg-yoo-lahr fiction. Or was I on crack?
