and (probably) worth every penny, unlike that other 1200 point XBLA game.

They were probably going to sell it for 800, but then saw all the people who bought braid and just upped the price.

I'll be trying out the demo before I buy this one. I have been burned on a few too many arcade games, including Alien Hominid.

Twice the game braid was for the same price? Sold.
Unfortunately, those long ass life bars the game seems to use are probably to blame for its length.

This is another step in the overall move towards full digital distribution.  Unless they're on XNA, I think the days of 400 Xbux games are coming to an end.

- xbox originals

- get people used to fully installing games on the hard drive with the Fall update; also provides a temp fix for future problems with DVD space issues

- ease into lengthier games costing more Xbux, roll out larger hard drives

Sony's doing the same thing, at a different rate.  I think by the end of this console cycle you'll see $30-50 "full" games (Sony's already tested this with Siren), and when the next gen starts I believe the split will be along the lines of 60/40 between downloadable and boxed retail games.  Possibly, you'll be able to choose between paying $60 for a disc & box version of a game, or a $50 Steam-like "pre-download" which you can download when a game "goes gold" and which will activate on a game's release day.

what you're describing is already happening on PS3

Tekken 5 DR (hey, it's still the most recent tekken until 6 comes out)

and now they've done Siren. 

i think it would be a good idea to use pre-loading like steam, though.  that feature had slipped my mind, but it's such a great idea. 

edit: but i disagree that smaller games will somehow be less common.  smaller and cheap games can still happily exist in a world where full games are also being digitally distributed.

I wasn't talking about the length of the game, jackass. I was talking about the content and overall FUN of the game.
So was I.  Brawlers with long ass life bars for every enemy = tedious even with lots of players.  By their nature, brawlers tend to involve a lot of repetition, but there IS an art to it.

In all honesty, I think the game looks pretty damn nice and it COULD be fun.  I'm simply a bit skeptical as their previous game (Alien Hominid) was a poor excuse for a run and gun shooter.  Compared to something like Metal Slug, it was complete garbage.  Castle Crashers is their attempt to bring back old school brawlers which, admittedly, is probably an easier genre to nail so they may just pull it off.  We'll see.

I'm sure this game will receive the same Evil Bore love that Braid and Bionic Commando have received, though.  Everyone is excited until it's released and demi labels it garbage after 5 minutes.

Alien Hominid was one of the best run and gun games in the past few years. I have faith that The Behemoth will deliver one of the best beat em ups in the past decade (considering the major lack of said titles)

yeah, some of those slipped my mind when i posted

sony's got the jump on 360 when it comes to full games

personally, i prefer to own the discs, but i like the move towards being able to do full installs

as for smaller games, i think you'll still see those on ps3, but i think ms is moving towards bigger games for xbla - the smaller stuff will shuffle over to the xna side
