Ouch! Lots of white text on a black background makes my eyes hurt.

That was a good, well-written story, but the twist lacked plausibility.

Constructing a large city for tens of millions of people would be such an important and costly project that it wouldn't be left to whims of a person who'd needlessly add human emotion and frailty to the robots. Making robots that sleep, take showers, and goof around at work like humans would be terribly inefficient. Such a large city wouldn't be built if there weren't human that needed it immediately; thus, it would make much more sense to build robots that could work for 24 hours a day and feel no bitter emotions.

Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch, I admit. But that's why I tried to have the guy in charge of it all seem a bit crazy. And thanks. :P

The "sleeping" is chargign and the shower is probs. a disinfect or something, right? Cajole, you should use that build an allegory- How we ascribe some much existential sensation to our daily routines when in fact they're little more than utilitarian necessity.

Spoiler that shit!

Swapping battery packs would make more sense than shutting down the robots at night to charge. Ignoring that, it isn't sensible to use robots that are about as efficient as Homer Simpson:

Quote
That day Riley was running fiber-optic wiring through a new building, and the work was going more slowly than he could ever remember. His fellow laborers were more apt to take breaks and bullshit, not taking their foreman’s warnings seriously.

And obviously our daily routines are necessary, but we still obtain pleasure from them. Eating and sleeping are enjoyable and satisfying.

Maybe I should just elaborate more the point that the guy in charge of building the city is living out a sort of twisted fantasy with these robots.

Nobody would put a guy in charge of building an entire city just so that he could live out his fantasies. The investors, and there would be need for investors, wouldn't be happy watching their city being built slowly just so some tard could play god.

Did I say in charge of building the city? I meant building the city just because he can.

I guess this is why you're becoming a lawyer.I hate you already.  :maf

Building a city capable of supporting 100 million people would cost trillions of dollars; you'd have to explain how one person would have the power, money, and autonomy to build such a city.

And I swear that I don't have Asperger's,

When I am REALLY bored, I will go to my local network news site (which has comments set up for the news stories they post) and troll the conservative neanderthals that live in my backwards state. It's fun-most of them have obviously not used the internet very much and its very easy to agitate them-with the added bonus of the site not being well moderated, which lets me do things like insult their children and beliefs with near complete impunity.

Yeah, the title does accurately describe both the events in the story and the reality of writing the book itself, though it wasn't intentional. This March will mark the 5th anniversary of when I started writing it.

Go to www.waytoomany.com next. Their forums are hilarious. I swear those people are probably 11 or 12 posting about taking drugs.
