Best the Wii Zapper for Link's Crossbow Training.  It is only like $20, you can keep or throw the actual zapper away and just hold onto the game.  It is one of the best games on the Wii.

I didn't know it was only $5 for the game itself at Gamestop.  Totally worth it and something that everyone should buy.  I think people avoided it because it came with that piece of plastic, but the game itself is amazing.

And the Twilight Hack is so worth it.  I did it yesterday and now I can play my import games without any problems.

If you don't already own or haven't played Tomb Raider: Anniversary on PS2 / Xbox 360, pick it up on Wii. The pointer controls improve the shooting a lot, and its a very good game anyway on whatever system you choose. It might help you get interested for the new game thats coming!

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is awesome as well, where ports are concerned.

Metroid Prime 3 is probably the best game on the console after Mario Galaxy.

Aside from Medal of Honor, other good online games are Mario Strikers: Charged and Mario Kart. Especially Mario Kart.

See if you can get together 500 points or have someone gift you the Opera Internet Channel. Download a bunch of VC games, have a look at some of the better WiiWare stuff thats out.

Once you do get the Twilight Hack, the first thing you should get is the Homebrew Channel from hackmii.com ... if you like the old LucasArts point and click adventures, grab ScummVM for Wii as well. You can compress talky versions of those games down to 80mb. You'll also be able to launch emulators and stuff with that channel. DON'T upgrade your Wii firmware if you want to do this.

cool, thanks for all the info

so, once i do the twilight hack i can never update the wii firmware?

Eel, give Tony Hawk a try if you like SSX games.  It's a decent arcade racer.

Also, +1 for RE4 but only if you haven't played it yet.  The extra content and new controls aren't worth replaying the game, imo.
Title: Re: Sunday is for God and Consumers - what did you buy?
Post by: radioheadrule83 on August 17, 2008, 02:43:34 PM
The latest firmware update will block trucha signed homebrew channels AND make your wii scan itself for the Twilight Hack gamesave. So in short yeah, don't update. I'm sure they'll figure a way around it... they may have already actually, its been a while since i checked on the news... does anyone know?
Title: Re: Sunday is for God and Consumers - what did you buy?

I think the way to do it is Twilight Hack in the Homebrew Channel, then delete the Twilight Hack.  I did that and updated my Wii and have no problems.  I think once you have the Homebrew Channel, you are set, at least until Nintendo becomes a bitch again.

And I second the suggestion of RE4 on Wii.  First, and maybe only, time you will see the vastly superior version of a game on the Wii.  Controls are brilliant to play with.

Also, +1 for RE4 but only if you haven't played it yet.  The extra content and new controls aren't worth replaying the game, imo.

I think it depends on how long it has been since he has played RE4.  I played the Wii game a year and half or so after I last played it on the Gamecube, and I was surprised by how great it all was.  Again, best way to play one of the best games out there.

so basically i shouldn't go online with it at all until i do the hack, so it won't force me into a firmware upgrade

The Wii isn't like the 360, or even he PS3, where it shuts off access to online if you aren't on the most current.  I think the newest is 3.3, and I just updated to that yesterday after doing the Twilight Hack/Homebrew Channel combo.  Before that I was on the old firmware and could still access shit like the Nintendo channel and things like that.  I also think that the Twilight Hack now works on the latest firmware.

Frequent firmware updates might just be the worst thing in the current gen of console gaming.

Dont listen to this... there is no negative effects to upgrading firmware, not even when the first update that blocked the Twilight Hack came out

Agreed, Link's Crossbow Training is pretty addicting, it's great to try and 'chain' together perfect hits to get the best score, and some of the events are highly reminiscent of the classic Zapper shooters of old (Hogan's Alley, Duck Hunt, et al). Not to mention, the few FPS parts in the game have some great controls. Definitely worth $5, you don't even need the Zapper to play.
