WTF, I don't agree with most of this list!
-
Terrible, awful list.
-
top 25 of all time? because it's like half the list is top 2008-2007 and then there's some older games thrown in there
-
15 Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor

They said:"'Greatest' is a rather fuzzy word - we prefer 'best'. These are the 100 best games, today. We don't care how influential or ground-breaking something is - is it the best? Should you play it now, after everything that's come out since?"
That still doesn't explain shit. I can easiy list 50 games I'd rather play today than Hitman.
Readers' vote is at http://www.pcgamertop100.com/
I wonder if that list would be just as bad.
-
I dont totally agree with this list. I still think World in Conflict isnt quite the game most people seem to think it is, and EVE Online for all its success, is still pretty inaccessable to a large majority of pc gamers.
And as much as I like thief II, it went to shit when the robots started showing up. Where is Homeworld? NOLF 1 OR 2, how bout recognizing that all Oblivion has over Morrowind is GRAPHIX OMG OMG :/
Seriously, 3 mmorpgs on the list? two of which probably dont belong on the list anyway.
-
It isn't even the best Hitman game. Even Oblivion is up there when Morrowind is far better. And there is not a single Battlefield game! And TF2 is amazing, but the best PC game ever? fuck that.
I would be happy that Mafia made that list, but I'm not getting that.
It boggles my mind that Hitman is 8 on that list while Max Payne 2 isn't.
-
just feels like it was written by some 'new guy'
-
BF1942 should been in City of Heroes spot
-
City of Heroes on the list? Really?
Team Fortress 2 > Deux Ex?
Blood Money, of all the Hitman games?
I'm not a fan of this list.
-
Hitman 2 was the best imo
-
Yep, Hitman 2 is the best.
-
Where the fuck is Diablo 2
-
no bf1942, list is horseshit
-
if bf1942 deserves to be on the list, you can't go without Tribes 2
-
They have Fallout, but no Fallout 2 on the list? They have Thief II, but Thief III isn't on the list? AND WHERE THE FUCK ARE DIABLO II, AND ALL OF THE LUCASARTS ADVENTURE GAMES?
This list is shit, confirmed.
-
diablowned :lol
CivIV is too low.
No Baldurs Gate is shit
-
City of Heroes??????????? Really??????????
-
Company of Heroes is a good game and all, but not that amazing. I'd have put Starcraft on the list, the game is still very playable today.
-
deus ex
what a shit game. belongs in the shithole of shitland.
-
NO DIABLO 2, AOE2/3, STARCRAFT OR TITAN QUEST = EPIC FAIL
-
Its sad when PC Gamer doesnt know PC games and then just says 'DFFRNT STROKES DFFRNT FOLKS LULZOL' to cover up their ineptitude.
-
Not even one LucasArts point & click adventure? Actually, there's only one point & click on the whole list I think? I'm not a big PC gamer but even I can see this list is a failure of laughably immeasurable proportions.

PC Gamer does one of these lists every few years, and they're always totally different, usually skewing towards newer games. The one they did in the late 90's had Sam & Max in the Top 10, and Tie Fighter was #1.
-
I wasnt even a big fan of Longest Journey, far too talky talky blah blah. If anything most of the 'old' pics on the list are 'safe' picks you could uncover during casual conversation on a message board.

TOP 25 PC GAMES OF THE LAST 87 MONTHS
-
TOP 25 PC GAMES OF THE LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE INTERN
-
#1 spot is surely a joke.
-
NO DIABLO 2, AOE2/3, STARCRAFT OR TITAN QUEST = EPIC FAIL
Seriously. And TF2 as #1? Are you shitting me? No Counter-Strike at all?
-
#1 spot is surely a joke.
The only possible way it could be any worse was if the #1 was an MMO.
-
My list
Doom - The first three episodes are infinitely replayable.
Bioshock - A reminder that games are still a great medium for storytelling.
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines - Lovingly crafted contemporary horror RPG. Troika was just hitting their stride here.
Counter-Strike - The most addictive MP FPS I've had the pleasure of playing next to MP_SHOP.
Blade Runner - As relevant to the franchise as the movie or novel.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - There's enough to keep most people busy for at least 50 hours.
Grand Theft Auto III - High res. High FPS. Mouse aim.
Half-Life - No explanation.
Half-Life 2 - I still prefer the original, but the game is impressive compared to most FPS.
Mafia - Classic.
SWAT 4 - Genre-defining.
World of Warcraft - Like Oblivion, you may retroactively deny its charm, but the game will keep you busy for hours upon hours.
Doom III - Call the game cheap, it's effective at what it tries to do. Nice tech and voice work.
Quake II - And then there were rail guns.
Portal - Incredible. (but we really don't need a sequel. move on, guys)
The Secret of Monkey Island - Ron Gilbert's masterwork.
Deus Ex - I haven't finished this one yet, but it stays on the list.
Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards - Pushing the boundaries of good taste. Encourages safe sex.
Hitman: Blood Money - Still not sure which is the best in the series, but the interface is certainly most polished here.
The Dig - Another fine example of sci-fi storytelling done right.
Max Payne - Bullet time. Noir. Constipation face.
Diablo II - Loot. Still kinda playable. Always memorable.
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - Great storytelling and dialogue. Voice work is a mixed bag, though.
(Reserved for Fallout 3)
(Reserved for Alan Wake)
There are still some PC games I wish I'd played, including Fallout 1/2, Wastelands, System Shock 1/2, STALKER, The Witcher and a few others I cant think of.

Took out all of the shit in your list, but it was still 1,000x better than the piece of shit in the OP. LOL @ Fallout 3. Jesus.
PLAY FALLOUT 2, WASTELANDS, SYSTEM SHOCK 2 AND S.T.A.L.K.E.R ASAP!
-
Hey, Anachronox
-
Good to see Planescape Torment in that list.
Personally, I would add Gothic I. It took what Ultima 9 tried, and perfected the formula. For me one of the best PC games of all time, and still one of the best gaming experiences even nowadays.
Edit: And wheres Shiny's MDK?

I'm not even a big PC game player and even I can see that's a horrible list. No Starcraft? No Sim City? No Diablo II? None of the Ultima games? No Lucasarts adventures? Hardly any games before 2005? WTF?
-
There's probably a lot of publisher handjobbery going on in that list
-
My avatar weeps.
Not a single adventure game, huh?
-
Longest Journey, but thats definitely not my favorite anyway :(
-
:bow Deus Ex :bow2
-
Deja Vu :bow2
This might be the first adventure game I played. I rented it multiple times on NES.
-

What's weird is they use the euro name for XCom, which makes me think they never played it. smh.
It looks like this list is actually from PC Gamer UK.
-
still dumb, come on euroz. you say youre smarter n shit but here ya go makin shitty lists
-
Fuck PC Gamer. Fuck it up its stupid ass. Who wrote that article? A 10 year old? How the fuck can you make a list of the best PC games and include ANYTHING from the past 4 years? Everything that came out in that time period was a sequel to a superior game, or was the same idea done better previously. It's not like you have to be a PC elite to make a good list. I grew up with a mouse and keyboard in my hand, and I can honestly say nobody's a real PC gamer at PC Gamer if they approve a list filled with that much bullshit. Thanks for rectifying why video game review publications can suck my dick.
-
I'm gonna start Civ 4.
Wish me luck.
